In the 3000 BC, the first people settled in Cecropia, which is now known as the capital of Greece, Athens.

People settled in Athens due to many reasons one of them being the location. Athens was also located in a high spot which benefited them in all their wars. The location benefited them as during the time (3000 BC) they were still going through the neolithic age which meant more wars and having the high ground made it easier to defend their settlement against various invaders. So, it is clear that people want a safe settlement to live in. One of the main reasons people moved there was because of the two perennial rivers which are known as the Eridanos and the Ilissos. The two rivers benefited them as they caused fertile soil from erosion. The fertile soil would then be used for planting crops to eat and feed animals on the farm; this was a reason for the choosing of the settlement as they needed something to feed the animals for eating. The rivers were also a source of food as it had fish, and when people think about a settlement there must be a source of food. The river also had water and settlements need to have a source of water to drink, plant, give the cows and shower.

Those reasons create Athens's function, which are farming, trading and a private function. The two rivers would cause fertile soil which meant that they could farm lots of crops. The crops would also be used for feeding the animals that are used for farming and the crops would also be used for animal breeding. Due to the rivers, Athens had plenty of fish, they also have lots of crops from the fertile soil and meat from farming. These resources would then be used for trading with other settlements for different resources, which made one of Athens's function trading. Their third function is a private function, as the high ground kept them away from other settlements. The position made it harder to get attacked and easier to defend so it would be extremely hard to invade, and therefore made one of Athens function a private function.

Back in the 3000 BC Athens function was farming, trading and private function but now their main function is tourist attractions. This is because many stories of Greek mythology were held in Athens, and many people are interested in the mythology so when they want to learn more they go to Athens and see where events took place. They would go to Athens because of all the ancient places like temples and ruins, the Agora, the Olympieion, the Parthenon and the Acropolis. These attractions made Athens function as they have so much history and show what people used to do for their gods. The function changed a lot due to the fact that now no one believes in Hellenism and has been an interest other than a belief. So, people would go to Athens to understand their interest more from the attractions and other functions would be ignored. It also changed as back in the neolithic age the function of a settlement are mainly things that would keep them alive such as farming, but now it’s mainly about how the country gets money from ecotourism and how the country increases its economy.

I conclude that Athens has developed a lot since 3000 BC. As they were focusing on how to survive together in the 3000 BC by finding a high place to avoid invaders, finding rivers for planting crops for animals, eating and trading. These made Cecropia have farming, trading and a private function. But when people got more developed and settlements began to change and settlements to focus on increasing its economy, fewer people believed in Hellenism and Athens's function changed. Athens's function became tourist attractions as Athens has a massive background due to Greek mythology. Greek mythology caused tons of prehistoric buildings in Athens like the Olympieion and many people who find Greek mythology would see the buildings to learn more about their interest.
