South Africa, the southernmost country on the African mainland, prestigious for its changed geography. South Africa has three cities that serve as capitals: Pretoria (executive), Cape Town (legislative), and Bloemfontein (judicial). Nigeria, country located on the western coast of Africa. Nigeria has a diverse geography, with climates ranging from arid to humid equatorial. Nigeria is more developed compared to South Africa. Nigeria’s population is high compared to that of south Africa. Both countries have high level of corruption. Both these countries are led democratically by African leaders. Descriptions of African leadership generally center on social influence, voluntary participation, and on serving and stewardship which engender commitment rather than on egocentric behavior that can at best offer compliance (Large, 2008).
Both have strong executives with presidents sitting as heads of state and heads of government. Their strong powers are supported by the fact that in both cases their parties have a majority in their legislatures. Historically, two parties have remained politically dominant: the ANC in South Africa and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria. Their federal-type structures are characterized by strong central government and regional authorities consisting of states and local governments in Nigeria, and provinces and municipalities in South Africa.
Both Nigeria and South Africa remain economically dominant on the continent. Nigeria is considered a major country in Africa as well as its population. Due to poverty and unemployment is the reason why youth in Nigeria allow to be used as aggrieved politicians to cause electoral violence, and the reasons for this violence. South Africa is part of BRICKS for economical support whereas Nigerian leaders did not join any alliance for economic support or assistance. Both countries are known for corruption. However, Nigeria corruption index is about 24 which is classified as ‘very bad’, and as for south Africa it is at 44. This simply indicates that Nigerian leaders are more corrupt.
In conclusion, these two countries have more in common than differences. The most problem with the leading strategy of these countries is that they both building leadership on corruption, in that case it will lead to more flawed election. To solve this problem, they must practice a system where only one part is elected to run the whole country and failure to provide what they promise, citizens must vote them out regardless of the duration they dominated.
