Murder is a very well-known criminal behavior. Homicide rates in America remain among one of the highest in the Western World. Offenders that typically cause this type of crime tend to be also recidivists, not necessarily in terms of homicide reoffending, but in terms of general delinquent recidivism. People of all kinds can be victimized by this type of criminal behavior ranging from wealthy to poor, white or black, male or female, and from the young to the elderly. In this essay, I will analyze the statistics of the homicide rate in my hometown and the national average.

My hometown is Justin, Texas, which has a population of 3,422 individuals with an average age of 40 and an approximate household income of $77,813. Between the years 2015 through 2018, the population expanded from 3,351 to 3,847, a 14.8% total increase. The population of the town of Justin consists of 87.5% White, 7.69% Hispanic with the remaining being African Americans.

Since my hometown of Justin, Texas, has a small population with very low crime rates such as rape, murder, or vehicle theft, there aren't enough records to collect data from, making it difficult to compare to the national average. Instead, I will be comparing a small town in Texas named, Argyle. Argyle has a population of 4,100 as of 2017 with a report of 3 violent crimes. According to areavides.com, Argyle has a grade of an A+ in crime, making it one of the safest on the list of small towns/cities with the lowest crime rate. There has been only one recorded murder compared to the national average of 5.3k, there have been zero recorded rapes compared to the national average of 41.7k. Also, there has been 1 recorded assault compared to the national average of 248.9k, and finally, Argyle has a recorded record of 3 violent crimes compared to the national average of 383k.

This is a good replacement for my hometown of Justin, Texas, as Argyle has roughly the same population as it. This gives a good representation of my hometown from the small population and low crime rates. According to areavides.com, the overall crime rate in Argyle is 73% lower than the national average. In Argyle, you have a 1 in 134 chance of becoming a victim of any crime. Over the years crimes in Argyle have increased by 7%. But for every 100,000 people, there are 2.05 daily crimes that occur in Argyle. Making Argyle safer than 89% of the cities in the U.S.

In conclusion, even though crime rates are decreasing, day by day, there are still crimes that are committed, but we can reduce them by making strong rules, more moral education, and parental guidance. We should use all possible measures to minimize the increasing crime rates.
