The definition of trust is the firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. Wooden (n.d.) states that one should be concerned more on self-character rather than the reputation. Everyone would agree that character matters. It is one of the simplest way to know the person’s transparency. Even during the Prophet’s time, Islam has emphasize people about trust. There is a hadith about trust narrated by Abu Huraira states, The Prophet, peace and blessing upon him said, fulfil the trust of those to whom they are due, and do not be treacherous to the one who betrays you. Besides, there is another hadith narrated by Abdullah Bin Amr describes about characteristics of a hypocrite person that we need to care of. It is stated that The Prophet said, whoever has the following four characteristic will be a pure hypocrite and whoever has one of the following four characteristics will have one characteristics of hypocrisy unless and until he gives up. Whenever he is entrusted, he betrays, whenever he speaks, he tells a lie, whenever he makes a covenant, he proves treacherous and whenever he quarrels, he behaves in a very imprudent, evil and insulting manner.

Back to the topic, character of a person is one of the important thing to gain trust for people. First of all, character is made up of integrity or the moral qualities and values distinctive to an individual or organization. For example, how honest is the individual or organization; does it tell the truth? How consistent are its actions to its deepest values? Is the organization more concerned with what is right than on being right? Does the organization have the courage to act in accordance with its values and beliefs even when there is a price to be paid for doing so? There is so much thing to be care of about integrity as it is the easiest way to analyse how much the person or organization can be trusted. To add on, most of the major violations of trust are violations of integrity.

Covey research also shows, ‘The quickest way to decrease trust is to violate a behaviour of character. The quickest way to increase trust is to demonstrate a behaviour of competence.’
