An eagle is the ruler of the bird kingdom, they are large birds of prey. For centuries, people have seen eagles as a symbol of splendor, courage, valor, admiration, pride, fortitude, and elegance. This bird is important and symbolic to humanity because of its features. When eagles come to mind, people commonly visualize an enormous hunter soaring above wide-open spaces on extra-large wings. Indeed, eagles are among the world’s largest birds of prey who capture their prey by their own and never rely on others. We idolize them as living symbols of power, freedom, and perfection. In some religious conviction, these creatures are believed to touch the face of God.

Eagles have a beauty and grace suitable to their status as our national emblem. As with most birds of prey, the female eagle is greater and weightier than the male. They weigh an average of 12 pounds with a wingspan up to seven feet and a body size of nearly three feet. Eagles are lighter than they seem. The bulk of an eagle is its plumages; its bones are hollow and much lighter than the bones of mammals.

Golden eagles typically have longer bodies and shorter wingspans compared to bald eagles. Adult bald eagles are simply detected by their bright white heads and tail feathers and chocolate brown bodies and wings. They have black talons and yellow eyes, beaks and feet. In contrast, golden eagles have smaller, duskier bills and dark feathers with a pale golden cast in the area around the neck. Adolescent eagles do not obtain their adult colors until they are about five years old.

An eagle's eyes are up to eight times shriller than that of humans and contain many more color-sensitive cones. Positioned on the side of the head, their eyes provide a wide field of view. Bald eagles have large wings related to other birds, allowing them to fly high and hunt vast areas with a slightest of effort. During immigration they can travel 400 to 500 miles a day. Bald eagles have large, sharp pincers and strong feet which they use to catch their prey.

In captivity, bald eagles have a life probability of up to 50 years, but almost all in nature die before reaching maturity because of ecological hazards and stresses. The eagle is the chief of all the winged creatures because the wingspan is very large. Eagle conveys the powers and messages of the spirit to all. It is man's association to the divine because it flies higher than any other bird. The eagle brings the message of transformed life because it is associated with the east winds - the direction of spring, dawn and rebirth.

When they mix with new birds, they are there to find something to eat and then take off from the place. As the old saying tells, “The birds of like feathers may flock together”. Eagles do not mix with birds of other species but only enjoy flying at their high altitude and mountains. It is this feature that makes eagles unique birds. An eagle will never capitulate to the size or strength of its prey. It will always give a tough fight to win its prey or to regain its territory from the predators.

An eagle can see its enemy from a large distance, such as snakes trying to sneak in to its nest to snip its egg or to kill its young. Though eagles build their nests on extraordinary high rocks and places, snakes have a tendency and capability to climb these sky touching places. But the powerful vision of eagles keeps the enemies far away from its nest.

First outlook of an eagles is they flock together. They relish living in a family, they are relaxed together and they would like to spend their lives with a company of their family. An eagle will never capitulate even if its prey is much larger than her/him. Second outlook of an eagle is that they can fly of a height of 10,000 feet, but they are able to swiftly land on the ground.

The outstanding strength and courage of the eagle have stimulated mankind during the course of the ages. In ancient times the clashes between the sun and the clouds were considered as clashes between an eagle and a troublemaker and the eagle was held in wonder and adulated for its majestic figure and outstanding qualities. Because of their power, eagles have been a mark of war and regal influence since Babylonian times. In Assyrian traditions, the eagle was the pictogram of storms and lightning and the God who carried souls to Hells.

In India and Babylon, the eagle was the sign of fire, gust and storms, and considered as the messenger of immortality. In the Golden Phase of Greece, it was the symbol of victory and highest spiritual energy. The eagle was the holy and blessed bird of Zeus, the ruler of all gods. The Greeks characterized eagles with wings stretched, holding a serpent in their claws, which implied the achievement of good over evil. In Rome, an eagle was the representation of Jupiter, the ultimate god. For the Romans the eagle was the symbol of triumph. As Roman multitudes dominated the world, they trooped under the standard of the eagle, with stretched wings.

It was the only bird thought to be capable of gazing at the sun, which folklore held to be the light of God. Eagle was the particular symbol of the Caesars who represented supreme expert witness. Afterwards, in the Middle Ages, it became the symbol of Germany. Hunting with an eagle was an outstanding amusement in Europe but it was allowed only to the kings and monarchs. The rise of Christianity brought still further admiration and dignity for the eagles. To the early Christians, the eagle was the sign of the Ascension. In the early nineteenth century, French troops under Napoleon dominated Europe under the pictogram of the eagle.

There is nothing contradicting the fact that the eagle maintains its splendor and magnificence even in the modern times. With its acute vision, the eagle has come to exemplify an all-seeing eye. The eagle is habitually a solar symbol, and is generally linked to all sky divinities. It implies inspiration, relief from slavery, victory, durability, speed, pride, agility and royalty; it is often an emblem for powerful nations. Since it be in this world in full light of the sun, it is well thought out as gleaming and shares characteristics with air and fire. The Roman, French, Austrian, German, and American publics have all embraced this image as their symbol. Through its dispassion from earth, it signifies spirit and soul. Dante calls the eagle as ‘bird of God’. Being a representation of power and authority, it maintains a prominent place in America as was in antique Rome. In American beliefs, the eagle is a representation of countless courage, power and freedom. The badges of the President, Vice President, several members of the Cabinet, and most divisions of the armed forces centre on the eagle. The Apollo 11 crew chose ‘Eagle’ as the name for the first lunar alighting element. Man was on the moon with the confrontations of Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong: “Houston, Calmness base here. The Eagle has landed on the moon”.

In 1911, ensuing a tradition as old as man himself, the Boy Scouts of America elected the eagle to signify the highest triumph.

In short, since the commencement of time, man has been using the eagle as a sign of supremacy, victory, authority, monarchs and valor. And during the course of the history, the eagle is overpoweringly accompanying with man’s triumph, valor and success.
