Everyone has a different worldview which impacts the way that they not only live their lives, but how they think they live their lives. There are three main world views the anthropocentric, life/earth centric and the biblical worldview. These different ideas all share ideals that keep them in touch with defining roles that should be in place as we live here on earth. In order for them to be unique however they must have their own ideas that make them stand out and help people identify with them specifically. This raises the question of wha is a persons individual worldview and how do they live up to it?

To understand ones worldview you must first know what the worldview you identify with, to start there is the anthropocentric world view. This worldview is where humans are believed to be the most important species and to dominate and rule other species that are on the earth. This idea means that we would rule the world but only for are personal benefit and neglect the other species. This would be to say the all other organisms are here to one serve or provide a benefit to humans. This does not work for me and my personal beliefs, because this means that we as humans are here simply to consume and dominate the planet. This view has too much of a selfish one sided point of view for me to personally except.

The next worldview is the life/earth centric worldview, this worldview puts humans and other form of life on the same playing field. This worldview proposes that all life has value and that we will all have a purpose and the we are meant to work with nature, not conquer it. People like to propose that humans are too different of a species to work with nature and therefore want to say that this theory does not work. This worldview however is more closely aligned with my personal world view being that of the biblical worldview.

The biblical worldview while sharing similarities with both the life/earth centric and the anthropocentric worldview, does stand to carve its own path. The biblical worldview proposes that God has created a different way for us. That we are supposed to rule over other life, but in doing so we are protecting and working with all forms of life. This view says that humans are the most important and dominant species, but that does not mean we can simply do whatever we want.

For humans to truly rule we must protect everything that God has provided us, for everything has a purpose. If we do not take care of what we have we will no longer have it. This is because with out care there will be nothing left to use or sustain ourselves off of. This is why I believe that the biblical worldview is more closely related to the life centric worldview than the likes of the anthropocentric. The anthropocentric view is too selfish and would ultimately lead to the demise of all species wiping out all resources and form of life along with it.

We, as humans, are here to take care of all life on earth including our own. We have been created by God to live lives that are beneficial to us, but in order for us to do so we must cherish what we have and make sure that we will have what we have now in the future. We must coincide with all God has given us if we are not only to survive, but to take care of and honor him for his gifts. All life is a gift and should be treated as such, so as a Christian we should treat all forms of life as valuable and at least realize that it carries a purpose, if not understand that purpose, that God has created it too fulfill.

This does not mean that I am always taking care of things like I am supposed to. God has given all of mankind the task to create order, but sometimes we disrupt this order. I am no better in the chaos of man than anyone else. This could mean something as simply as swatting a spider instead of shooing it out of the house. It can also mean that we consume too much and do not leave another for others.

Consuming can take on many different forms, while yes it can be simply overheating and not leaving resources for other to have their sharing, ultimately leading to their struggle in survival. It can mean us being simply wasteful with not only the everyday resources that we would generally think of, but with things like energy. This can be things like heat, electricity and the money that is spent on them.

With such easy access to these common, in our society, utilities it is easy to forget that these thing are precious to the way that we live our lives and we tend to waste many things. If everyone was to live by the standards that I personally live by, even if i don’t necessarily agree with them, then the earth would not have enough sustainable and renewable resources to keep allowing us to live. I take to much for granted and need to find new ways, or at least a more conscious effort, to try and lower my carbon footprint,

Lowering my footprint can be as simple as eating locally instead of eat as much fast food and having lots of trash to throw away a long with it. This would also lead to less animals needing to be killed due to demand if everyone ate a healthier and more locally sourced diet. This would also lead to supporting more local families and help create a better economy for those around us. This would lead to us supporting one another and having a greater since of community to go along with and more sustainable lifestyle.

If we all could stop putting ourselves first and look at how we impact the world around us it would drastically change how we think about our lives. We would all try and push for a greater since of cooperation, not only with other people, but with all form of life that God has given us. This is why he wishes for us to rule with grace and care so that we my all live more responsibly and sustainably for longer more enriched lives.
