We know that we’re all guilty of it. We wake up, and – without thinking – we reach for our phone. Before we roll out of bed, we’ve checked the weather, read any updates and responded to any emails or texts we received.
So, no matter how much we promise ourselves that we won’t be addicted, it seems everyone who has a phone, eventually becomes attached to their phone. Studies show most technology users keep their devices within arm’s reach all day! Every few minutes, even if the phone didn’t vibrate or sound an alert, we feel pressured to check for updates on our phones. But technology is not necessarily bad. So, if we’re not careful, phones can ruin our lives in many ways.
Firstly, even if your phone is face down and not in sight, or put in your pocket, only its mere presence can be a major distraction. That also refers to researchers, who noted that people whose phones are confiscated, progress and excel in thinking-related tasks. Before phones, whenever there was a delay in conversation, people used to wait in the silence. We would sit awkwardly instead of breaking off into an app. Now, when friends go out to dinner, any falter in conversation causes people to pull out their phones.
Furthermore, sleep is vital function for our bodies and has a major influence on our mental and physical health. While we sleep, our brains form new methods to help us strive and remember, to allow us to solve problems, make important decisions, and to be creative.
Poor sleep can impact our intellectual performance, the way we control emotions and behavior, and our ability to manage with stress. Exhausted children and teenagers can have difficulties in controlling anger and recklessness, and as a result, they can have difficulty getting along with others.
In addition, mobile phones instigate to a lot of accidents. A lot of people do their daily work, drive while taking on mobile phones. There is increased threat of accident if you are talking on the mobile phone and driving as you are giving your half attention to a mobile call and are having half attention on the road.
Research studies have also declared that mobile phones have a negative impression on health of an individual. If you are using mobile phone for long hours daily it may steer to consequential health issues. Ultimately, the anxiety, stress, lack of sleep, plus insufficient amount of fresh air, can cause severe depression in teenagers and adults alike. For instance, a text message left without a reply, or a post on Facebook that did not get enough ‘likes’, etc., can also cause one to feel distressed and become very prone to mental illnesses which causes them to lower their self-esteem so they start looking down on themselves.
Without a doubt, it is a major fact that phones are convenient to all of us. After all, they were designed with a good motive in mind, but many of us are failing to utilize them in an appropriate way. In fact, the mobile phone has turned from a technological tool to a social tool. Phones are the most personal device to us, so we should make an ideal use of them.
