The reason this topic was the topic of my interest was because the Wright Brother were very smart and advanced for their time. The ability to build a airplane that actually flies is pretty amazing. The way they changed traveling from place to place forever is really interesting. Once they first built the first airplane, airplanes started to evolve and started to become better and more efficient. They began the way of traveling nowadays that can be done way faster than driving.
The Wright Brothers were born close to Millville Indiana. Wilbur was 4 years older than Orville. Wilbur was born on April 16th, 1867, his brother Orville was born in 1871. Neither of the two brothers went to college.” In 1889 the brothers started their own newspaper, the West Side News.Wilbur edited the paper, and Orville was the publisher”. Then they started to work on people’s bicycle’s. 1903 the Wright brothers flew and controlled the first airplane.”Wilbur flew their plane for 59 seconds, at 852 feet”(History.com Editors, Page 1).
They made adjustments to the airplane to help it fly better. The moveable rudder was a success on their airplane. The pilot controlled the rudders, the rudder would change the amount of lift on the airplane. The rudders are there to create force from left to right. The two brothers modeled their wings for the plane after bird wings. Which where they also got the idea of the moveable rudder from.”Wilbur and Orville always took shared credit for their innovations”. Not being selfish and trying to take all of the credit for all the work they did shows how humble they really were(History.com Editors, Page 1).
Wilbur and Orville Wright had a huge impact on the future and the way people started to travel. In 2014, more than 100,000 flights took place per day in the world. Airplanes make traveling so much faster than driving or riding in a boat. The prices nowadays are also pretty reasonable most of the time. The Wright brothers started the beginning of this amazing creation. Later they started making jets which are most of the time even faster than airplanes. The engine they used in the first airplane they flew, only weighed 13 pounds. Now engines are way more evolved. The CF34, which there are multiple versions of weigh around 1,650 pounds(Gunnar Garfors, Page 1…Charles Chandler, Page 1).
The CF34 is about 127 times heavier than the Wright engine that only weighed 13 pounds. The Wright engine was a Reciprocating engine. The Wright engine had 4 cylinders. The Wright engine was missing a few things that are in engines today like, spark plugs, carburetor, and a fuel pump. The Wright engine produced 12 horse power which most riding lawn mowers have more horsepower then. More and more people started trying to think of more ideas for airplanes, trying to get them to fly better, faster, with better control. Safety also became a problem.”In 2005 there was more than 1,000 deaths from airplanes crashing during commercial flights.” Safety for the airplanes and the people in airplanes has really became a really important and critical topic.”59 people were killed in 14 air accidents worldwide in 2017”(McCarthy, Page 1).
To improve the safety of airplanes they did a lot of things. Creating better engines was critical. Engines started to become more reliable and less likely to cause crashes. Manufacturers have been doing a lot to try and make airplanes the safest as they possibly can.”Engine manufacturers have almost eliminated the chance of engine failure.” You have a higher chance getting killed by a lighting strike than going on a flight in the EU and US airlines. So nowadays flights are a lot safer than the beginning of airplanes(Allianz author, page 1).
Some people say the Wright’s brother invention of the airplane has played one of the biggest roles on how people travel today. Airplanes have evolved so much from the Wright brothers plane to now. Orville and Wilbur Wright started one of the most used, fastest, and proficient ways to travel. They impacted the future and will probably will continue to impact it because things are still getting better.
