What are the consequences of going to a large university?

College is a significant part of life for each person who is planning for a successful future, and students are looking for the right place to complete this part. There is around 4,000 college in the United States (Asthana, 2016). Some students decide to go to a small university and others to a large university. The ones who chose large universities don't know what is beyond this decision, whether it's going to make their future better or worse. Completing an academic career in a large university is big problem students are afraid of nowadays, and it has its advantages and disadvantages. Large universities could benefit students by making their life after graduation bright and their career better because they will get benefit from the perfect education system and the high job opportunities after graduation, on the other hand, it could make their life difficult, and they might either fail or have a high debt after they graduate because large universities have high tuition fees and the high number of students in classrooms would effect om their understanding to the lecture.

Large university's high tuition fees could affect severely students after graduation. High tuition costs in large universities will lead to student debt problems, which has a substantial negative impact on students. Recent college graduates left school with an average of $34,000 in student loans, which increased from $20,000 before ten years ago to an analysis from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (Kamenetz, 2017). Also, that analysis showed that people aged 30 to 36 found out that having student debt could affect the chances of buying a home in comparison to a debt-free college student.

High student debt caused by large universities' tuition fees could make students borrow from their parents and tear down their goals. Student debt pushes students to borrow from their parents when they're stuck paying for their loans, 40% of US families of 18-year-old adults gave their children money for education according to the latest data from the Panel of study of Income Dynamics (Shah, 2014). Moreover, being in a large university could make the students unhappy, and the loans will affect them severely, and they won't be able to own a house or a car. A college graduate who borrows are less happy in their life will make them sick, and it will make it hard for them to own a house or a car according to a Gallup poll (Dynarski, 2014).

Students' journeys in college could be harder and more challenging in large universities because of the significant number of students, which may lead them to fail (Asthana, 2016). Many students who attend large universities can be intimidated by the massive number of students in classes and everywhere on campus. Being in a class with a large number of students could affect their understanding of the lecture. Also, students could get a lack of individual attention, which they haven't experienced in high school because the classes are small, unlike large universities with big classroom, and this cause professors and TAs to be inaccessible to students. Moreover, professors in large universities' number one challenge for them is academic dishonesty, and their main obstacle in teaching is managing academically dishonest students who are focused more on competition rather than education, which is an unreasonable concept since students go to college to receive education, not a grade.

On the other side, large universities have more academic programs and majors (Buttke, 2018). Large universities are characterized by a high number of programs and majors, and they often have more specialized and specific majors. They allow students to prepare directly for a particular vocation, such as business and engineering. Also, they are beneficial for students who are unsure of their major when entering college by offering many different majors.

Large universities offer more jobs and networking opportunities for students to make them easily find better jobs. Large universities have national name recognition, which benefits students when applying for a job. Since managers know these colleges, their companies, and organization are bound to be available at their campuses to employ students. The large alumni network of large universities can help students during the job hunt, as the more significant number of fellow students and alumni means more potential connections that could lead to lucrative job opportunities.

The education system in large universities is more professional and could benefit the student by helping them to be the best in their study fields (Bierer, 2016). Large universities sometimes have facility members who are better-known and top in their fields, and this will help students to be the best version of themselves in their fields of study by learning from a professor who has been in a great experience until he got on top of the field.

Large universities have many recourses that help a student interact with college life and to improve their journey in college by making it easier. Large universities are characterized by having many libraries and some of the libraries stay open for 24 hours or for a late time, there are tutoring services for most of the classes available all week even on the weekends, and there are many useful lectures open for all university students discussing problems college students face and how to resolve it, for example, taking notes, stress, time organization, and many other issues.

Conclusively, Large universities have their advantages and disadvantages, and they could lead students to a successful future or a complete failure. High tuition in large universities could make life measurable for many students, and they will have high debt, and they would not be able to achieve their goals after graduation. Also, the significant number of students in large universities could make their experience harder and more challenging by not having the opportunity to interact with the professors and making understanding of the lecture way difficult. On the other hand, the significant number of academic programs and majors in large universities can help students to pick the major they're interested in not a major they were forced to take, in addition, they have the chance to change their major and choose from many different majors if they dislike their major. Furthermore, large universities can benefit students with higher job opportunities either through career fairs that be present on campus every semester or through university name recognition after they graduate.
