Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister who played a very important part in the American Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968 by James Earl Ray (History.com Editors). What King wanted was to fight for equal rights for African Americans. The reason he fought for the African Americans was that he wanted them to have equal rights just like everybody else. People would treat black people so badly and poorly because of their skin color. King gave a speech that was called “I have a dream” where he talked about how people failed to live upon the promises and how we failed as a population on how to treat other people. The speech also wanted to state that he wanted to have the same right not just civil rights but also economic rights. The most important part of this speech was to end racism in the United States.

Martin Luther King Jr. wasn’t just fighting for himself and his rights. He was fighting for everybody who was being attacked by racial comments and for their rights as well. King inspired many people with his speech “I have a dream” yes many people didn’t like it but many others did. His speech made many people look back at what they were doing and made them change their minds about African Americans. Martin Luther King Jr. did it he helped many people not only African Americans but Americans in general too. Mostly everyone got their civil rights and got treated better. King really did inspire many people. In 1968 King was killed by James Earl Ray. Even though King was killed the things were still the same. We celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. day every year. Well, it’s not much of a celebration but we still remember all that he did for African Americans and the USA.

He got captured again 3 days later and they gave him an extra year in jail for it.
