Noam Chomsky was an intellectual prodigy who went on to earn a PhD in linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania. Noam Chomsky was a brilliant child, and his curiosities and intellect were kindled greatly by his early experiences. He was born in Philadelphia to middle class parents. Chomsky is widely published on both topics in his field as well as other topics, Biography.com Editors (2014).
One of the many things that Chomsky spoke on was the theory of (L.A.D) known as the Language Acquisition Device Theory. The Language acquisition theory speaks of how children acquire and understands language. Chomsky basically built on Piaget’s Schema theory. Noam Chomsky believes that children are born with an inherited ability to learn any human language. Chomsky thinks that the mechanics of language acquisition is derived from an innate process. He basically thinks that environmental prints and other things in the environs alone cannot foster how a child acquires language. He believes that as there are stages of development for other parts of the body, language development can also be achieved up to a certain age, Brighthubeducation.com, (2010).

This theory went on to explain that there is a developmental limit for children to acquire certain knowledge. This basically means that it would be more difficult for children to learn certain knowledge; after they have passed the average level of acquisition. Regarding my study of the children having difficulties deciphering new words, I would say that the innate knowledge that they were born with needs to be activated and continuously fostered. Chomsky strongly believes that all children have the potential to learn new content because of the built in Language Acquisition process. Chomsky emphasized on the child’s genetic inherence of imprints. He believed that just like legs and arms, children were borned with some level of language knowledge but needs to be foster by the environs. So despite having innate knowledge that goes to a certain point and this knowledge needs to be strengthened by environmental prints and scaffolding by more knowledgeable others.
Just thinking that children are blank slates and needs to be taught everything or need to adapt language from adults around them. Instead children should be scaffolded and be introduced to a print rich environment and different vocabulary skills to improve how they acquire language and their meanings. The Language acquisition theory was formulated by a veteran linguist that has done many deep researches on how children acquire language and how it has helped children to become better at language. So, instead of leaving children to their own imaginations they should be guided and be presented with an environment that can foster their language development from birth and as they grow.
