Minecraft, a ‘sandbox’ type video game, is arguably one of the greatest hits of all time. It can claim this spot because of its age, its support, and possibilities of what can be done.
Now yes, a lot of old games are still very popular to this day. Some titles include the Mario Bros. series and Sonic the Hedgehog. While these games were good for their time, they are no longer supported and are really only still played for being ‘retro’. Minecraft, on the other hand, is old, but is still popular and is considered ‘new’. So, what gives? Well, Minecraft, unlike other old games, still has support and is constantly updated to meet the needs and wants of the community. Most of these updates are suggestions from random people who have good ideas, and post on sites like Reddit or Mojang’s site itself. To sum this up, Minecraft, even though old, is still a fun game that is updated every day.
Okay, so Minecraft is still being updated. But so are some other games, like Fortnite. So why are those games not as popular anymore? The answer is simple. Minecraft, unlike most games, is based around what you want to do. Minecraft is a sandbox game, which basically means that your experience is based solely on what you make it like. If you want to build a huge city that will take countless hours? Go for it. If you want to burn down other people’s houses, not recommended, but there is nothing stopping you from it. Alright, so you can build whatever you want. Cool. But what about limits? Isn’t there a limit on what you can make or do? Well yes, but actually no. In the vanilla game, there are some limits, such as lacking textures or colors, or just a functionality altogether. However, you can install ‘mods’ from third parties and get that block or biome. So, say you want to make a house. You got the outside, inside walls, and all floors done. But wait, there isn’t any furniture! Well, you can get some relatively easily. Just google ‘Furniture Mod Minecraft’ and install a trusted one, and there you go. All in all, Minecraft is still relevant because of the endless possibilities and functionality.
Alright, I did say before that the game is good because of the support and updates, but I should’ve gone into more detail. Minecraft is owned by the technology and game developer giant Microsoft. Microsoft is generally known for providing its games with frequent updates and amazing support. When the game first came out, it wasn’t the greatest. You could make a cobblestone house, without a door or windows. But, as the developer got more and more support, the game grew and grew and added more and more stuff, and still are to this day. Speaking of support, you can play the game on literally anything. Minecraft is especially known for being a very compatible game. You could play it on a phone, Xbox, PC, laptop, or even a Nintendo Switch. And best of all, all of these platforms can play together! If you are on the phone, you can play with your best friend on his PlayStation. In conclusion, Minecraft as a whole is a game with support and frequent updates, which make it better and better.
To close off this essay, Minecraft is a game with endless possibilities, an almost infinite amount of support, and updates that bring functionality and even more possibilities. Coming from a person who has been playing for about 8 years, the game is fun, and I suggest giving it a try.
