America is at a crossroads. Like so many Americans, it is painful and disheartening to see the divisiveness being fomented by those who wish to tear our nation apart. We have government officials in powerful positions who are not thinking about the well-being and safety of the people or our planet. The cheap rhetoric coming out of Washington D.C. only pits people against each other, spreads hate, clouds truth, and puts money over the wishes of Americans. Politicians fail to recognize the problems that we face today: regime change wars, wealth inequality, the pandemic, health care inequality, gun violence, climate change, reproductive rights, rising college tuitions, mass incarceration, immigration, racial injustice, and so much more. I believe Vice President Joe Biden can fix these problems.
As a nation we have faced several issues, and he has too. During the Ebola outbreak, Joe Biden led the response that saved millions of lives, with only two Americans lives lost at the conclusion of the epidemic. While the current president has not caused this pandemic, his lack of leadership has caused the American death toll to approach two hundred thousand this month. On March 14th, when pressed on the death toll, unemployment rates, and rising case numbers in the United states, Donald Trump said that he “takes no responsibility at all” for his failures. On June 20th, at a campaign rally in Oklahoma, Trump said that he told his people to “Slow the testing down please.” This decision slowed down our chance to save tens of thousands of lives, our understanding of where the virus lurks, and our steps to reopen our country. That’s why this November, the choice is more clear than ever, we can choose a president who seeks to foment hate, bigotry, lies, and division; or we can choose a leader that can unite the country, that brings out the best of us, that truly cares about needs of the American people. As Joe Biden said “ I want every single American to know, if you are sick, if you are struggling, if you are worried about how you are going to get through the day, I will not abandon you.”
Vice President Joe Biden is motivated by his love for America, and its people. I am confident that he will lead our country in the right direction, guided by respect, love, kindness, compassion. Thus, Joe Biden will work to heal the divisive wounds that have torn our nation apart. He will work to end ineffective regime change wars and bring our troops home, so we can reinvest the trillions of dollars we waste every year on countless wars into the needs of our citizens for things like healthcare, education, income inequality, and so much more.
As Vice President Biden says, “If you entrust me with the presidency, I will draw on the best of us not the worst, I will be an ally of the light not the darkness, it’s time for us, for we the people to come together, united we can and will overcome this season of darkness in America.”
We Americans are the ones who have the power to create change, it will take every one of our hands, our hearts, and our voices, motivated by unity, love, and respect to create a future that can be so much brighter for the country we have, for the people we love.
So while I am not yet able to vote, I will work tirelessly, doing everything in my power to get Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris elected on November 3rd, because I love and care deeply about my country, and I know they do too.
