The twentieth century brought an era that changed the lives of every African American across the United States. The civil rights movement, a movement to see the cruelty that every African American faced on a daily basis, was one of the greatest events that took a step into somewhere we would’ve never expected during the 1950s. Many activists made themselves known during the movement, activist like Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, and Rosa Park, just to name a few, were key players in the civil rights movement. All it takes to change the world is for one individual to stand up and be bold. People can change the world by being brave and standing up for what they believe in.
To begin with, Rosa Park, one of the most inspirational African American women ever, made a significant impact on America by merely standing up to what she believed in. Segregation was happening all around in the 1900s. Blacks were treated badly and had very limited rights. Almost all of the schools were separated. One school would be for the white kids then the other would be for the native Americans. The white kids would usually have the nicer things like the nicer bathroom, the nicer classroom, better drinking fountains and etc.
On December 1st 1955 Rosa Park refused to give up her seat to a white male on segregated bus, which later resulted in her arrest. When she refused to give up her seat it also led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This became one of the boldest acts of courage.
It takes courage to stand up to what you believe in. It takes courage to stand up for your rights. It takes courage to stand in front of everyone and show them what you really believe. So, you can imagine the amount of courage Rossa Park has to endure to refuse to give up her seat to a white passenger. She had to defy the person in power, the person in charge of the bus. So also had to defy the law. So, can you imagine how scared she was to probably stand up for herself? She had no one to defend her and to protect her. She was all on her own at that moment. She also didn’t have any legal rights. Sometimes being brave means acting against your fears. Rosa Park was just a regular person just like us. It’s not like she had any superpowers that could help save her and pull of this brave deed. All she had was conviction and dignity, and that sure did make a difference in the world we’re living in today.
Rosa Park believed in freedom, she believed that we should all be treated the same. Rosa Park is a wonderful, brave women, because she believed in human rights.
Rosa Park invigorated the struggle for racial equality when she refused to give up her seat to a white man in Montgomery Alabama. Parks, the mother of the civil rights movement, made the decision to remain in her seat on the bus because she didn’t believe she should have to move because of her race, even though that’s as the law at the time. Parks arrest on December 1st 1955 launched the Montgomery Bus Boycott by 17000 black citizens.
