There are thousands and thousands of explanations on how the universe was created or formed; the most popular one being – The Big Bang Theory. Although there are thousands of explanations, I will only be going over three. The three theories are: 1.) The Big Bang Theory, 2.) The Steady State Theory, and 3.) Creationism. First I explain these three theories in my own words, so that way you can understand them. After I explain them I will then go on to compare them, and lastly after that I will contrast them. The Big Bang Theory is the most commonly used scientific explanation of how our universe was created. In 1927, Georges Lemaitre came up with the idea of The Big Bang. Or, well, that’s when he first introduced it to the public. He had been working on this idea for a very long time before he brought it to the public’s attention. It took a while, but almost every person – well, scientist- agreed with this idea. Now, it is known by the whole entire world.

The Big Bang Theory is a VERY complex and hard to understand concept for me, but I will try to explain it as well as I possibly can. 13.7/ 13.8 billion years ago all the matter (EVERY SINGLE THING THAT TAKES UP SPACE IN THIS WORLD) condensed/ tightened into one very small, tiny space. After that, suddenly just BANG!! It exploded. That explosion right there is considered ‘The Big Bang.’ When that explosion happened it caused burst of electrons, neutrons, protons, chemicals, and light to splatter into the surrounding areas. It took billions and billions of years for all of that stuff to set and cool, but eventually it did. Everything that mixed together from the explosion created elements. Those elements then went on to form stars, nebulas and yes, planets. Still today, there are new stars and planets forming. But, that is how Georges Lemaitre viewed the creation of our universe and that is one of the many theories that us as humans, living in this universe, have come up with.

I did some research and I was really surprised with the amount of people who do not actually believe in the big bang theory. Even at the most know world-wide theory still only 20% of people truly believe in this explanation. Personally this theory makes the most sense to me out of all the theories that I have read about or heard about, so I guess I would be a part of that 20% of people. Now I will tell you more about the guy who came up with this theory. His name is Georges Lemaitre. He was born on July 17, 1894, in Charleroi, Belgium. He died on June 20, 1966. When he was just a young teenager, he decided that he wanted to become a priest. He went to a very religious school to study. He particularly excelled in chemistry, mathematics, and physics. Although he was still very set on becoming a priest, he decided to start studying engineering. In 1920, at the age of 26, he was awarded an award for the highest distinction a Docteur en Sciences in mathematics for his thesis “The Approximation of Real Functions of Several Variables” After that, he finally got his wish to become a priest.

Next, I will move on to creationism and explain what that theory is. Creationism. Creationism is the next theory that I am writing about. Creationism is often really misconstrued. Most people, maybe including you; the reader, see creationism as a belief in God. I thought it had everything to do with the belief of creating the world, but no, that is 100% incorrect. Yes, of course creationism has a lot to do with God, but not everyone views it that way. A lot of the time people chose to believe in creationism, because they simply don’t want to believe the scientific reasoning behind the universe’s origins.

Many Christian and non-Christian people chose creationism as their theory. Basically creationism is the belief that some sort of supernatural force created the universe and not -let’s say- an explosion or something like that. Maybe they believe that gods or a God created the universe. Who knows maybe they believe that fairies created this earth. All I know is that they 100 percent do not believe in the scientific explanations. Studies show that around 40 percent of people believe in creationism. In my opinion, that is quite a lot of people considering there are hundreds of theories and just a little under half of the world choose this one theory. If you have a very religious family, you may have grown up being told that God created this universe. Some people go along with it, some people don’t. I know this is a scientific research paper, but along with the facts I would like to offer my own opinion as well, because why not? Personally I do not believe in this concept. I feel as if it has no basis behind it. To me, at least the scientific theories have some sort of info to back it up you know?
