The time of the domestication of horses has yet not been found. Before the domestication of horses, they were hunted for food. There have been recent studies that the first type of domestication was horseback riding in 3500-3000 BC at Kazakhstan. The used a type of bit wear which was found on a few of the horse’s teeth. Horses were used for fields, bringing in harvest, hauling goods and conveying passengers.

Many ethical issues in horse racing are drug use, training techniques and the danger of racing. When it comes to injecting drugs into horses, veterinarians can use anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants. Unlike trainers/ owners of the horse, injecting banned steroids that give the horse improvement in their racing performance is illegal. In 2013, the United Kingdom had 11 horses tested positive for banned anabolic steroids. Training for the horse can become very harmful to the horses especially if the training is intensive and their health breaks down. The ethical issue is making horses train further to the horse’s limits which can lead to health issues or a horse dying. When horse racing comes along it can become very dangerous. Each week, horses are having to be put down because of horse racing. One knock or one bump can lead into a disaster. After the horse has finished their racing career, they are either put down due to lack of success, being let to die from old age and being forced into labour. When a horse in labour, a horse can be in a lot of stress even if they have been treated in bad conditions.

The people that are gaining from using drugs that are not allowed in horse racing is the owner, trainer and the jockey. When a horse wins a race, it all depends on how big the race is. For example; the Melbourne Cup is a massive race each year which winnings can have up to $3.6 million, but it grows each year. Whereas, Morphettville race course only has a high winning of $100,000. $3.6 million dollars for one race is incredible This is why owners try to advance their horses without doing any work besides injecting a drug into them. Owners will do anything just to get that type of money.

People already disagree with horse racing and now that drugging a horse is happening, people are furious. People disagree with drugging since it gives a horse the extra ability to win a race with just one injection. It is also very cruel to put horses in situations that they are not treated in good conditions.

Drugging horses is the best. Why wouldn’t you want your horse to win the biggest race in history. Drugging horses isn’t bad since they are using injections that does no damage. The horse can survive through the drugging stage plus there is no way anything can go wrong.

Conclusion

Horses are being treated in atrocious conditions and if I was the owner of those horses, I would be ashamed of myself. These horses are just trying to have a perfect life, but they must deal with all this abuse. Not getting fed every single day, not being able to drink water, getting drugged just for more money and getting injured just for everyone’s entertainment is terrible. These owners who are winning money just because of drugging are just going to spend that money on getting more injections for more horse racing. Horse racing officials should be strict on owners and being able to see how they are treated.
