Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is the role model of Muslims and therefore Muslims should in the best of their ability study and reflect on his life. Studying the life of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) should not be limited to acquiring factual information. Besides being aware of factual information, as Muslims, we are also obliged to take lessons from his life. For example, many lessons can be taken from the battles fought by the Prophet (pbuh) and his companions. Ali Ibn Husain (RA) said, “We used to teach the battles of the Prophet (pbuh) equally as we used to teach the Surah of the Glorious Quran.” (Ibn Katheer, 2001, p. 1). In this paper, we will discuss some lessons that can be taken from the Battle of Badr. The Battle of Badr was the first battle in Islamic history, and it took place on the 17th of Ramadan in the second year of Hijrah (Ibn Katheer, 2001). Allah mentions this battle in the Quran in several places. “And already had Allah given you victory at [the battle of] Badr while you were few in number. Then fear Allah; perhaps you will be grateful” (Quran 2:123). This battle was the first time the Muslims fought against the disbelievers from Quraish. The Muslim army consisted of approximately 300 voluntary Muslims, ready to fight the disbelievers, while they prepared a well-equipped army of 1000 soldiers. The war ended miraculously in favor of the Muslims. Quraish suffered from severe loss and embarrassment. This victory brought happiness and hope to the believer, it boosted the morale of the believers. Up to the present moment, Muslims can draw lessons from this battle and thus according adjust their thoughts and behavior when encountered with difficulties and easiness in life.

The first lesson this battle teaches us that quality always overcomes quantity. Before the Hijrah The Muslims were badly treated by the Quraish. As ordered by Allah, they did not resist and endured the mental and physical tortures with patience. The Battle of Badr was a chance for the disbelievers to take revenge from the disbelievers. Even though the Prophet (pbuh) did not oblige the Muslims to fight, a majority of them voluntary agreed to fight the disbelievers. The intense desire for revenge and fighting in the cause of Allah caused the believers to fight fearlessly.

The second lesson we can draw from the battle of Badr is the importance of reliance on Allah in all affairs. Although the Muslims realized they were much less in number than the Quraish, they did run away from the battle. The Muslims believed strongly that reliance in Allah will guarantee success. Allah says in the Quran: Say, 'Never will we be struck except by what Allah has decreed for us; He is our protector.' And upon Allah let the believers rely (Quran 9:51). Allah sends thousands of Angels to fight along with the Muslims on account of their sincere desire to serve the cause of Islam. Allah This and other miraculous events during the battle clearly proof Allah helping his servants in times of hardship and calamity. Another lesson we should take from this battle is that we should never underestimate the power of prayer. Prayer is a prerequisite for the success of the Muslims. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) prayed extensively before the start and during the battle. When Prophet Muhammad saw the Quraish marching to the battlefield, he made the following supplication: “O Allah, Here comes Quraish in their vanity and pride contending with you and calling your Messenger a liar. O Allah! Grant the help, which you have promised me. Destroy them this morning” (Ibn Katheer, 2001, p. 29)!

When Muslims face problems, they should first pray to Allah and secondly do their utmost best to solve their issues. Unfortunately, many Muslim people in our times will only do their best to solve issues and will neglect to pray to Allah, due to a lack of sincere trust in Allah. Muslims should also realize that success or relief can only be possible through the will of Allah. Allah also reminded the Muslims that the enjoyed victory was only possible through His Will. Allah says in Quran: “And Allah made it not except as [a sign of] good tidings for you and to reassure your hearts thereby. And victory is not except from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise (Quran 3:126)”. With the guidance of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Muslims were continuously in the process of developing the best of manners. With the guidance of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) Muslims were continuously in the process of developing the best of manners. For example, Prophet Muhammad encourages his companions to treat the prisoners of well treated and not abuse them. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) proves to be humble by accepting the proposal of Hubab Bin Munthar (RA) to change their place to halt. (Ibn Katheer, 2001) Lastly but not least, this battle teaches us to acknowledge the importance of sincere friendship, unity, and obedience to the leader for achieving success specifically in times of hardship and life in general. The commands, such as fighting in ranks and using arrow sparingly, of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were strictly followed by the companions and the Muslims were united. (Ibn Katheer, 2001). Also, the Prophet chose three people from his close relative to fighting in a duel at the beginning of the fight. These companions obeyed the Prophet (pbuh) without hesitating. This matter teaches us that if one is sincere in his scarifying in the cause of Allah, he should first and foremost sacrifice from himself and close ones. Also, the absolute support is given by Sad Ibn Muadh (RA) and Al Miqdad (RA) in the name of their people that they will support the Prophet shows us clearly how strongly the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) were united (Ibn Katheer, 2001). Many children also declared their desire to fight in the battle, even though the Prophet (pbuh) did not allow them to fight due to their young age. The emotional support given by Abu Bakr (RA) to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), by assuring him that his prayers will be answered, shows us the Prophet(pbuh) being surrounded by loyal and sincere friends (Ibn Katheer, 2001)

In conclusion, we can put forth that the Battle of Badr was one of the most significant events in the life Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The hadeeth narrated in Bukhari narrated by Rifa (r.a.) states clearly the love of Allah to the martyrs and warriors of this battle. Gabriel came to Gabriel came to the Prophet and said, 'How do you look upon the warriors of Badr among yourselves?' The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'As the best of the Muslims.' or said a similar statement. On that, Gabriel said, 'And so are the Angels who participated in the Badr (battle). (Bukhari 3992) Studying the life of Prophet Muhammad benefit tremendously the Muslims. So many lessons can be taken from different aspects of his life. Most importantly it shows us how to have pure faith in Allah and be conscious of Him. Having faith and Taqwa will ultimately encourage us to do more good deeds and to have good manners. The love of Allah for the warrior
