Have you ever procrastinated on a task because you felt that you have all the time in the world? Or have you ever wanted to realize something but was too lazy to act on it? I’m sure all of us have experienced encounters like that before. In my speech, I’m going to touch on the importance of remembering how precious time is and tell you all what the saying ‘time and tide wait for no one’ means. We need to understand that time waits for no one for us to stay motivated and focused while unleashing our inner potential.
‘What exactly is the concept of time?’, one might ask themselves. Time is eternal and that it has neither a beginning nor an end. However, men were able to give meaning to it and measured it. Time connects every act of creation. One cannot finish building a skyscraper in a month, nor can a toddler become an adult in a year. Time is a free force, and it does not wait for anyone. Hence, it is certain that time is symbolic of a river. The current of a river flows ahead and never comes back. It is identical to time. Once lost, we cannot regain time, and most importantly, it does not wait or stop for anyone. As one of the most outstanding medication history figures, Hippocrates said that time is a created thing. To say ‘I don’t have time’ is to say ‘I don’t want to’. Could there be anything worse than going through life missing out on numerous opportunities that are awaiting you?
Our successes and failures rely on how we make use of time. But how can we manage our time better? I feel that it is imperative to possess a clear vision. A vision is a thought in your mind of anything that is about to happen. It allows you to focus and create a purpose that becomes your measurement for success. Oprah Winfrey is an excellent example of an individual who used her vision to drive her forward and fully use her time to achieve what she had in her mind. She pulled herself from poverty to become one of the most successful women in the world. Winfrey grew up through hardship, but often visualized herself having a better life. Thus, she studied and worked hard to attain this vision and is a role model for many today. She once said: “The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude”. Therefore, if we alter our mindsets towards tasks, and envision what we would like to achieve, we will be able to make practical and effective use of our time and acquire many opportunities.
Prioritizing tasks is also an effective way of managing time. Once we can prioritize, we will know the importance of various jobs. It has come to my attention that several people wing their way through day after day, not considering whether they’re spending their time producing meaningful results. Hence, I believe the only way to ensure you get the foremost out of your time is, to begin with, what matters the most to you and work backwards to your actions to figure out how you ought to act. Doing this enables our brains to stimulate which task is the most important, increasing our productivity and helping us attain more in life. However, being productive doesn’t mean that we overwhelm ourselves with tasks every time. Taking proper sleep and exercising is also a part of being productive. Besides, adequate exercise and sleep balance between body and mind are crucial for being productive and efficient.
Ultimately, there’s a maxim that if you waste time, time will waste you. We cannot make any moment stop or await us, so, all we can do is make the most effective use of our time. Strike the iron when it is hot. Think of your passions and dreams. Be positive and be ambitious and you will find that your life will change drastically. Maybe you will get to have a taste of success sooner than you think.
