Helping others is giving positive energy to people, and connects us to others, creating stronger communities and helping to build a happier society for everyone. However, there are disparate ways for us to help others without spending money: giving blood, donating materials and doing volunteering.
Every day in the Canadian Red Cross, people give one unit of blood saves three lives. Each blood type is valuable, but if you are O-positive or negative, which occupies 37 percent of world population, your blood is more precious than you think, which can be used in blood transfusions for all other blood types, it’s the skeleton key. If your blood type is rare instead of the universal O type, on the other hand, you are more needed than anyone. Giving blood is not only helping people in accidents, where someone loses massive amounts of it, those suffering from anemia, rely heavily on red blood cells are also donated by you. It’s important for all of us to go and do our bit by donating regularly, not only will it save countless lives, but it might even save your own in the future.
Have you ever thought donating throwaway items? Maybe your unwanted items can help others go through hard time? One's person clutter is another person's treasure. There are many people in need of usable clothing, who are disaster victims, underprivileged people, and children in need of clothing, and your donations can help. When you throw away your clothes, they have no chance of reaching people who need them the most. When we have some spare time and goods, it’s an opportunity to help people who have worse conditions than us.
If you can't spare a dime, could you spend some time on volunteer? Perhaps you can tutor a child, teach Sunday school, coach sports, or pick up litter in places where lack of labor forces. Volunteering is a win-win situation, volunteer is a place where you can use your skills. Even people like retirees have lots of time and experience and they are valuable resources for schools, churches, civic organizations, and charities. No matter what is your occupation in this society, what are you doing is achieving a better world.
Even if you are in between jobs, flat broke or on a fixed income, you can still be a generous helper through blood given, unwanted items donations and volunteer contribution. Generosity is one of the best human qualities, the rose in her hand, the flavor in mine.
