The Academy Award-winning movie ‘Toy Story’ is Disney/Pixar’s best animation as it fosters the importance of love and friendship. The theme of the importance of friendship has been clear throughout the series. There are so many reasons as to why ‘Toy Story’ is the best movie as it prevails friendship, true love, and determination. ‘Toy Story’ demonstrates how two characters, both extremely different, work together to reach a common goal. This movie fosters how important it is to love one another as friends and companions.
As many other Pixar movies like ‘Finding Nemo’, ‘Up’, and ‘Monsters, Inc.’ hold ‘Toy Story’ at a tight race to first place, ‘Toy Story’ has them beat for the best. These movies all reveal a message to viewers as well, but the theme of ‘Toy Story’ means so much more than the other ones do. Now, I do realize many will not agree that ‘Toy Story’ is the best movie, but that feeling can and will change.
Friendship is a reoccurring theme throughout ‘Toy Story’. This theme is important because we as humans forget the importance of what makes friendships so special. The friendship of Woody and Buzz is so special because they are so different from each other, yet they are able to live so alike to one another. Eventually, these two learn how to be supportive and provide help or even advice when needed. This lesson serves as a reminder that although we may interact with different personalities and characters, it does not mean that we cannot sustain true friendships with those who are different from us. At the end of the day, we can’t forget that we are all humans and no one is perfect.
In regards to morals, by acknowledging our friendships, we as people are able to recognize that we do not have to be perfect or 'good'. For example, when we struggle with making a choice in regards to right and wrong, or good and evil, we often rely on our friends to assure us that mistakes are okay or even guide us in the desired direction. No matter where the toys ended up – Sunnyside, the attic, or Bonnie’s house, they knew they’d be okay because they had each other. The point is, if you’re a good friend, you’ll always have friends to back you up and be the Buzz to your Woody or the Bullseye to your Jessie.
The movie’s introduction song is ‘You’ve Got a Friend in Me’. This expresses the theme of friendship as it is displayed through this song. This song is renowned known because of ‘Toy Story’. Throughout the movies, Buzz and Woody need each other to move along their journey of helping Andy get happy. ‘Toy Story’ displays the life and adventures of a close group of toys and their owner Andy. Friendship has always been a central theme in these movies. ‘Toy Story’ also highlights related virtues and explores the fear of abandonment.
‘Toy Story’ tells a compelling, consistent and comprehensive story that both entertains and leaves viewers wondering. It is a story of friendship and love for each other. In the end, it teaches a valuable life lesson: growth and maturation are natural, fear of the unknown is terrifying, but friendship and love conquer all. Most importantly, it teaches that love is both a means to an end and an end in itself.
