Why do I want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
I want to be confirmed so I can have the Holy Spirit and be closer to God. In order to be a true member of the Catholic church you need to be confirmed and I want to be a member of the church. The Holy Spirit will help me have holy thoughts and actions and love holy things. It will also strengthen me to stay holy all my life. It will mean that I accept responsibility for my role in the war against good and evil. It completes the grace given to me in baptism. It strengthens me to stay on the path to salvation. It matures the soul for the work ahead. Being confirmed is a good way to thank God for what he has given me. Confirmation seals the gifts of the Holy Spirit in me and makes my bond with Christ stronger. Confirmation will change me to become a true child of God. Getting confirmed means getting one step closer to what God has planned for me. It makes me feel like I can make a difference in my church and my community. Being confirmed deepens my faith in the church and helps me be closer to God. Receiving the Holy Spirit helps me be a better person because in order to be a good person you need to live by God’s word and law. Being confirmed can also help me help others find their way back to the Lord.

What Gifts of the Holy Spirit do I get and how can I be open to them?
In my opinion, I need all of them. I need wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Wisdom is what the Holy Spirit puts in us in order to enable us to see things through the eyes of God. This is important because instead of seeing things through our own biased, imperfect eyes, we see things through the impartial eyes of God. Understanding allows us to read inwardly and to understand things the way God understands them. This is important because God is able to understand all knowledge and to have God’s understanding would allow us to understand the depth of God’s words. Counsel is a supernatural intuition that allows a person to judge quickly and correctly in difficult situations. It helps us not to fall prey to our own self-centeredness or opinions. Prayer is the essential method to preserve this gift. Fortitude is a willingness to stand up for what is right regardless of what might happen to us as a result. It is important because it gives us the courage and endurance to stand up for the church and the word of Jesus Christ. It also helps us get through other difficult parts of life not related to the church. Knowledge is the ability to grasp the relationship between God and every living creature. It is important because it lets us see how God loves everything he created and created everything equally and for a reason. To destroy creation is a sin because we are taking advantage of God’s work. Piety is similar to reverence because it makes us aware of our total reliance on God and allows us to worship him with humility, love, and trust. It is important because it reminds us of our eternal bond with God and helps us respect him. Fear of the Lord does not mean to be afraid of God as he always forgives and is slow to anger but instead is a gift that reminds us of how small we are compared to God and his magnificence. It is important because it reminds us to respect him as he is more powerful and kind than anything else in existence. We are not submissive to the Lord out of fear but because we are moved and conquered by his love. It could also be described as a fear of separation from the Lord. I can be open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit by being confirmed and welcoming the Holy Spirit into my life.
