One of the most crucial aspects of any organization is providing a very conducive, productive atmosphere in the office since it is where innovative ideas are created. Highly skilled people are hired, meticulous, fearless decision makers and goals are driven. Working in an office can be a pleasant experience in the case of proper organization of workplace and dynamic working culture within an office. It gives specific advantages for employees. Like employees are provided with supervision and support by the immediate superiors and co-workers. Being surrounded by admirable, intelligent, creative people that will help motivate most employees to emulate the top performers. Agreeable workers are presented with a challenge to aspire to be as excellent as the top performers or maybe even excel. Healthy competition like aiming for your next promotion for getting the position that other colleagues are aiming for will give the workers the inner drive to feel excited reporting to work, and getting work done as impeccably as possible. However, there are companies that had succeeded when they allowed employees to work from home, and gave them a flexible work schedule. Both of the organization types are effective. But this essay will focus mainly on the work environment I think is more fun and challenging. Nonetheless, working in an office is the most effective approach because it teaches employees time management and socialization and it gives them help and a private space.

Yes, there are restrictions if you are working in the four corners of the office with the fixed working hours, day in and day out. But working within the clock teaches workers how to manage their time. Time management is a highly useful skill in any sphere and every activity of the human life. Every company sets a particular tile schedule for employees to organize their work and achieve useful results. Such discipline allows an organization to predict the number of work employees can manage within a specific time period. Such accuracy in a schedule is also beneficial for employees since it permits them to organize their lives, reduce stress, deliver work on time, achieve more, improve their reputations, and gain more opportunities. The discipline and routing in the office generate the desire to work due to the stimulating atmosphere. Moreover, employees are surrounded by people who work on a common goal that does not allow a person to stay on the periphery and not to be involved (Seager, 2015).

Another significant advantage that the office can provide to employees is socialization. Offices comprise a high number of interesting individuals. People at an office are one of the best sources of information and exciting stories. Having lunch with your co-workers is a fun way of socializing, catching up with one another, maybe even listening to the latest gossip flying around. These little chit-chats, banter, sometimes even frictions too between co-workers when ideas and personality clash; these bubbles of activities add dimension to an otherwise boring routine of working alone from home with no co-workers to interact with.

Actual interactions encourage teamwork. What will you do if you are on a deadline then your computer’s software crashes? You misplaced a very important file or couldn’t get your data match? If you are working in the office, you can stand up and walk over to someone’s desk and ask for help. Any technical difficulty you might be experiencing can be given attention by the technical department. Help is near and quick. A meeting can be face to face not video conferencing. You can observe everyone, give immediate feedback, and present a better idea during a brainstorming. Suggestions on how to improve your work, constructive criticism and praise can be heard directly from your boss and then shared to your co-workers. The employee will feel proud of himself/herself if promotions and rewards are announced within the hearing of everyone at the office.

Even in the office environment privacy doesn’t get compromised. Companies put much effort to make their offices comfortable for employees. They provide a separate working zone for everybody. A perfect example is the cubicles. They are perfect working zones that give privacy and makes a person work with full attention without any distractions. Every employee has their own space and personal device to work on. By having that, an employee can keep things confidential and secure. Even most withdrawn people would feel safe in their cubicles. I had tried working in a cubicle, believe me, it’s the best!

Yes, there are restrictions and disadvantages too in working in an office. To be illustrative, it is better to start with the description of the advantages of work at home to understand the disadvantages of working in an office. A significant number of individuals prefer to work at home: creative artists, IT experts to name a few. Nicholas Bloom, who is a graduate of Stanford School of Business, claims that working in an office is “an outdated work tradition”, and “his study found that resignations at the company dropped by 50% when employees were allowed to work from home” (Lynch, 2017). Working from home equates to ‘freedom’, which is serves as an effective motivator and inspiration. For creative and artistic people, freedom equals to air for breathing. They have a flexible time schedule, less pressure. They can choose the most suitable and comfortable time for them to start and finish their work with less stress. Such work allows traveling during work without waiting for a vacation. Indeed, many people want to spend much time with their families, and the work at home provides them with such a possibility. Therefore, the family culture can thrive, which enhance the productivity of an individual (Lilyquist, 2018).

Another pleasant bonus of working from home is that employees will not spend much of time on finances for reaching their office. Some companies do not even have an office, and all their employees work from home. It helps them to save money on office rent, community facilities, and staff members as cleaners and security.

For some people, work at home is considered better than work at an office. Some people are happier working from home. As I weigh my options, I will be happier working in an office, surrounded with busy creative people. Many people find work boring, so finding your ideal workplace is an important aspect to keep in mind when applying for a job. Office environment not only teaches interpersonal relationships, but it teaches employees how to manage their time and organize their working process and their lives. It also helps them to socialize and acquire new knowledges and skills. At the office, an employee has its private space where they can work, and no one would bother them. They could get immediate help and feedback. All these positive advantages and rewarding activities help make a happy employee. A happy employee will not just remain agreeable and stagnant, but will become more productive, satisfied and eventually become one of the top performers and valuable assets of the company.
