To be perfectly candid – I never would have envisioned myself finally pursuing my Masters in the field of Art & Design; not till today at the very least.
Like every other young designer out there, my aspirations and desires (career-wise, of course) at first started with ruling the roost of the fashion world and ended with making a name for myself out there as a world-famous fashion designer – the usual blitz and glam way of life we are so widely exposed to as young fashion design graduates.

They’ve not changed very much, to be honest, they’ve rather taken more of an enlightened turn. In the years where I pursued my diploma and my degree in Fashion design, and even before that, whilst I waited for my SPM results, I was drawn to the idea of educating. Soon after, the desire to educate – and to learn, right there, along with my students! – came about, strong and sweeping.
Along with my passion in the Fashion Industry, I enjoyed teaching as much as I enjoyed learning. Not long after I began my degree, the simple act of learning from my seniors and my juniors and helping each other learn new classroom techniques and simple tricks of trade brought things to a new light. I wanted to educate as much as I wanted to learn. I took pride in educating as much as I took pride in learning. I believe this course will help me build on my core strengths and fuel my passion to teach.
In my 2 to 3 years spent working within the fashion industry, I’ve learned that different qualifications matter to different sets of people. Whilst I’ve often believed that true skill, passion & experience trumps papers, this is only a half-truth. In attempting to apply for several Fashion Lecturer positions, and high-ranking Fashion Management (Director) posts, I astonishingly realized that a generous portion of my would-be superiors were interested in my grades and whether I had a Master’s or Postgraduate degree or not. And surprisingly, no, the years of experience notched onto my portfolio hardly mattered. I was, of course, very fortunate to have been with an organization that tested not only my fashion related expertise but also a range cast far wider than I could have ever imagined.
To put it shortly, this course would not only grant me the knowledge and experience required to handle a class of young design undergraduates, but it would certainly open my eyes to a new world that rests just a little far off the course of design. This new world being one that’s going to literally expand my mind with theories and concepts of the art & design universe that I’ve barely scratched the surface of, in my previous years of study. And the qualifications that it comes with is a delightful little treat as well. These will no doubt be a great help in aiding in the advancement of my career placement.
