Technology has come a long way since the turn of the last century and devices have also been improved, evolved, and especially created a nuisance in some areas. Imagine your child has a test tomorrow, and they don’t even care to study. But, he/she comes home with a test paper that reads: Caught cheating, mark: 0. Would you not be furious with your kid trying to cheat? Therefore I believe that cell phones should be banned in school because of these three points which influence cheating, distractions, and finally but not least cyberbullying.

Firstly, devices influence cheating, cell phones with cameras or internet connections aid students in cheating on exams and quizzes. Any cellphone with an internet connection helps the student to look up answers for quizzes and tests. Cell Phones with cameras give the cheater an easy way of photographing exams so other students can crib off their answers. Given the purpose of testing is to prove the student's ability and knowledge of the subject, these shortcuts to good grades are destructive and counterproductive. Cheating is already a large enough problem without allowing the students such powerful tools for bypassing the whole point of school. Besides, students can merely look up the answers whenever they need them, grades lose their power as an incentive to study. Cell phones rob students of a powerful motivator to work on their education and give them the easy way out by providing answers that are detrimental for students who don't practice their skills resulting in lower grades.

Secondly, devices promote a distraction for students in a place where they are supposed to be educated. Cell Phones distract students from the lessons. Given the purpose, of school is to educate the students, anything that disrupts learning is counterproductive. Most cell phones are capable of sending and receiving text messages and most phones have games on them. Smartphones are mini gaming consoles, with thousands of games available to download. Most cell phones now double as MP3 players, allowing students to take their music into class with them and listen through earbuds. Now for my first sub-point, it's not the cell phone that is the main problem. It's the feeling of power that the phone gives students. Yes, cell phones are an important part of our society, but with teens, the misuse of this power is shocking. Just because of a cell phone, they think that ignoring their education, staring at their screens for too long, and posting anything they want is fine. Cell phones are just bad. Also with the temptation of social media and texting in their hands, students may focus simply on their social life instead of the lesson planned by their teachers. Students bringing in their own devices to school also increases the possibility of theft, and it increases the chance of unproductivity.

Lastly, cell phones provide cyberbullying in schools and at home. In traditional bullying, you're usually working with a bully, victim, or bystander but that's not the case in cyberbullying. There are no multiple roles of them instead it's the bully and the victim. In previous generations, if someone got bullied on the playground they would be upset, but at least they had the hope to go home and be out of that very dangerous zone. What I am trying to say is that traditionally bullying would just stay on the playground, school, etc and it would impact the victim when they would go home to enjoy their time of freedom. Instead with cell phones, students now possess another type of bullying called cyberbullying where the victim will be bullied severely at school by verbal or physical and will continue to be even at home. These types of assaults could make the victim feel overwhelmed, feel vulnerable and powerless, feel alone and isolated, etc. What I am trying to prove here is that bullying needs to end on the playing field and it shouldn’t be carried from school to home and so on because it has negative effects on the victim where he/she feels very suicidal about their life and they start to question about themselves

In conclusion, I believe that devices should be banned because they aren’t beneficial for school and they are very counterproductive. The reason they are unbeneficial for school is that they influence cheating, cause distraction, and finally but not least cyberbullying. So therefore, I believe that devices should be banned in school, they affect the education of our students as previously stated they are very counterproductive.
