Big thighs? Curvy with wide hips, large feet, round bellies, cellulite, stretch marks and folds? Crooked teeth, thin lips, flat nose, acne? Yes! They are all normal bodies. I chose the song ‘Body’ by Jordan Suaste because I think it’s the most spectacular and pure song ever made in human history and because I relate to it in a very personal level.
Each person has different taste and reasons for liking music and even though, all songs are very different from each other, what they all have in common is that they make people feel something. ‘Body’ by Jordan Suaste is my favorite song because of its theme, the lyrics, and what it means to me. Although it was difficult to choose only one song due to my extensive taste in music, there is no song that made me feel as unique and beautiful as this song does. This song brings forth a feeling of empathy.
Society puts so many labels on us solely based on our physical appearances. This song talks about insecurities, society's standards, body shaming, sexual abuse, body image and so much more I still need to figure out. It's about overcoming the idea that no one will love you if you don't look perfect, it’s about how people feel less appreciated and thrown aside and realizing that we are more than our bodies, more than our measurements. Sure, it’s far more common for women to be assaulted and viewed as an object, but it does happen to men as well and this song is for every single gender, every person in the world who has been viewed as an object. It showcases real life experiences of individuals who have fallen victim to body shaming and worse. All a body is, is a physical vessel for our soul. The world is so obsessed with the idea of perfect bodies that people forget how it is to love them the way they are.
‘Body’ is one of the most honest songs ever written. It’s so incredible how a song means completely different things to different people. Jordan Suaste is a much-needed voice in today’s ever-changing landscape. He inspires me to fully embrace my inner beauty and all other aspects which does not concentrate on my physical appearance.
Life is not perfect, but if we start to prioritize lifting each other up as human beings rather than tearing each other down, then the world can get so much better. At the end of the day, we are all human beings, we all have defects. Your body is yours and you should love it for all the things it can do.
