I'm a third-year student at the University of the North Caribbean. Many will say that my life as a student is easy, fun, and adventurous, but in reality, my daily life as a student is boring, stressful, and depressing.

Let me go back a bit, I started school when I was only seventeen, I have to say it wasn't that depressing. Starting college, I was happy (because I knew I was going to take a course that I love) and sad (this was because now I was no longer under my mom's roof). However, I managed to overcome it and started my studies. As a student, it is not a bed of roses, little did I know there were many more difficulties to face in the future.

My first year as a student was interesting and exciting because it was the beginning of a life away from home (something I'm not used to at all), and also all the new people I met. The first semester I was like a lost sheep on campus, trying to find my way. I mean, I was unaware of everything that took place in the university: chapel, banquet, socials, bonfires, etc. My housemate at that time was a living insect in my life, she did or said things to make my face red with steam coming out of my ears. At one time, I remember not having a laptop to complete my assignments. At that point in my life, I had to stay overtime on campus to write homework and send it to my email so I could print it out for class tomorrow. At that moment, when I had PowerPoint presentations, I had to send the document to a classmate so that I could present it to the class by the due date. Looking back on those moments taught me as a student how to be patient with people and also with myself. Also, how to seek help from others. I remember seeing myself cry in the bathroom closest to my class after my teacher gave a bad comment about my presentation. Walking on campus with tears in my eyes from poor grades and worrying about being cleared for the final exam (I was a little baby).

As the years went by, everything became more difficult, but I learned to manage my time. As a student at NCU, we had the opportunity to apply for a part-time job on campus, and also join the club that can benefit us, such as the Evangelist Club of the Literature Students Association (SALE), which allows students to make canvases on some Sundays. By joining this club, I had the opportunity to visit Canada where I had worked for the summer, and got a scholarship that helped pay for some courses the following semester. While I was in the program in Canada I got the chance to buy a laptop, it was expensive, but without this laptop, I don't know how I would be doing classes during this coronavirus pandemic.

Now, during the coronavirus pandemic, this is where everything is harsh and depressing. Since March 10, 2020, schools have been closed, students are having online classes, and there are small active cases of COVID-19. Now, March 22, 2021, a year and a couple of days later, schools are still closed, classes are online, and a large number of active COVID-19 cases. It's so depressing to stay home all day, do classes in the same place, and under a strict curfew. A lot of people go to a party or any other events they might attend while in college, but my daily life as a student is so boring that I don't go anywhere, and even if I go places, it's once on a blue moon (maybe once a year or so).

In the future, as a student at the Universidad del Caribe Norte, I can imagine the life that I would be living, and I believe that it will be the life I always wanted, full of happiness, without stress or depression. Right now, when I close my eyes, I see a successful young woman with not only a bachelor's degree but also a master's degree, maybe working on her doctorate as well. She will be affecting the lives of others in her community and her country. She will be working in her dream career field, maybe she will be working at a university in Jamaica or even another country, who knows but God. She will travel the world to help whoever she can and be as happy as she can be. You will have everything you have dreamed of.
