How can effective feedback promote positive relationships with students? How does this
demonstrate the Christian worldview of “serving others in ways that promote human
flourishing?”
Effective feedback can significantly affect a student's self-perception, which in turn can affect
their effort and grade point average. This is especially true if the feedback is favorable. The
Journal of Educational Psychology featured a study that demonstrated the significant impact of
emotions on a student's motivation and self-regulated learning. It was interesting to notice that
the more frequently leaners experienced "joy," "enjoyment," and "pride" in the academic
environment, the more likely they are to better observe lesson plans, properly manage study
time, set difficult goals, and feel more pride in their intelligence (Mega et al., 2014).
Further, positive feedback/praise can also help create a welcoming and pleasant atmosphere
within classrooms. According to Conroy, et al. (2009, as referenced in Al-Ghamdi, 2017),
utilizing appropriate praise as a key method to make classrooms more effective and inspirational
places to learn is crucial for fostering a healthy relationship between teachers and students as it is
generally a good way to motivate students to complete their assignments. In order to encourage
students' learning and develop a healthy relationship with learners, educators must employ
effective feedback and praise as important teaching methods.
