Othello One Pager Paragraph
Othello by Willam Shakespeare communicates many themes throughout the play or more
specifically, a moral lesson taught. The moral lesson that can be figured out is that jealousy is a
disease that can lead into immediate tragedy. Iago is the “green eyed monster”, who uses their
jealousy to make plans for revenge. People are like chess pieces to him because he can easily
manipulate others to follow into his plan for revenge. He makes it known when he says, “ I am
not what I am.” Iago is not the good person he appears to be on the surface. Othello and
Desdemona are victims to Iago’s jealousy because it leads to their tragic end. Othello in his last
words says, “ Of one whose hand, like the base indian, threw a pearl away richer than all his
tribe.” Desdemona was his precious pearl which he cherished so much and calls himself silly for
realizing it till her death. He was blinded by manipulation and did not believe his wife which
drove him into madness. In the end, jealousy led to lies which ended up into death and murder.
