A. During a job interview for a teaching position, the principal of the
school presents you with scenarios. Respond as if you were
the classroom teacher in each of the following scenarios:
1.
Scenario 1: A parent of an English learner (EL) student in your
classroom complains to your administrator that you do not
understand how to communicate with parents who do not
speak English as a first language.
Describe one possible strategy you could use to better
communicate with these parents and how this strategy
addresses the issue from the parent’s perspective. The
strategy should be legal and ethical according to Title III:
One possible strategy I would use to better communicate with
these parents would be to use a virtual platform like Class Dojo
that offers translation capabilities. This platform allows private
and group messaging between parents and the teacher that can
be translated between languages. This would help address not
being able to communicate with parents who do not speak
English as a first language and give the parent a way to
communicate freely.
Scenario 2: You have been assigned as a co-teacher in a .2
classroom to assist with EL students and students
with exceptionalities. You are struggling to build a working
relationship with the teacher because the teacher has never
.worked with a co-teacher before
Describe one collaborative strategy you could use to build a
positive working relationship with the teacher: One possible
collaborative strategy is shared planning time. Communication is key
to working as a team. Planning time allows for collaboration through
open communication which is crucial for effective instruction and
support of the student’s. In this scenario, a planning time could be
set aside to define and understand each co-teachers role and
responsibilities, share teaching philosophies, discuss teaching
strengths and areas where they can support each other. All of these
are important for building a positive and strong working relationship
(between co-teachers.
Scenario 3: Your Professional Learning Community (PLC) asks .3
you to present the key legal concepts of 504. Explain three of
the key legal concepts of 504 that are associated with teacher
responsibilities and accountability: Under Section 504
regulations, the obligation of identifying and evaluating student’s
believed to have disabilities falls upon the school. If the teacher has
concerns regarding performance or behavior that is believed to be
caused by the student’s condition, the teacher is responsible for
initiating a referral after consultation with school administration. This
addresses the concept of access and FAPE. The teacher is
responsible for implementing the designated strategies described
within the plan and participate in the review process. This addresses
the concept of accommodation. Periodic evaluations are required
including anytime changes or termination of the student’s plan or
eligibility are presented. This addresses the concept of evaluation.
