Process Models software Engineering ___ Notes Process Models ● ● A software process is any procedure that addresses the managerial and technical aspects of software development. A project is considered successful when it meets all three objectives: budget, schedule, and quality. ● What is a process model? ○ "A process model outlines a general process, typically as a series of steps that a project should be divided into, the sequence in which those steps should be completed, and any additional limitations and requirements on the steps' execution." ● A process model offers general recommendations for creating an appropriate process for a project. ● A process is a means to achieve the goals of high quality, low cost, and low cycle time. ● Applications of Process Models ○ To staff, budget, schedule, coordinate, arrange, and oversee software projects. ○ To ascertain the most suitable software engineering techniques and tools. ● Prescriptive Process Model ○ The waterfall model ○ Incremental Model ( iterative enhancement model) ○ V model ● Evolutionary Process model ○ Prototyping ○ Spiral Waterfall Model ● According to this basic process model, phases are organized in a linear order. Iterative Enhancement Model ● The goal of this model is to bring together the advantages of the waterfall and prototyping models Spiral Model ● The Spiral Model adds risk assessment as a new component and was created to combine the best elements of the Waterfall and Prototyping Models. Prototype model ● The prototype model aims to overcome the waterfall model's initial two drawbacks V - Model ● A Waterfall variation that prioritizes the product's validation and verification.
