Sociological Exercise Article “Sexual hook-up culture” This article, written by Justin R. Garcia et.al from the American Psychological Association, discusses many factors of hook-up culture. More specifically, it discusses how the phenomena began to existthrough media consumption and the rise of automobiles- to the mental effects with respect to each gender. Additionally, throughout the article there is data to support the claims made as percentages of both genders responses to survey questions were given. The article states that more women than men feel negative effects of hook-up culture and feel more pressured. Furthermore, only very few percentages, less than 10%, from both men and women state that they genuinely enjoyed their hook-ups. To conclude, the article in such a way where it is clear that hook up culture is only effective in a very few percentage of the overall population and can lead to negative mental health effects.
