Dialogue for peace Why dialogue is important definitions for peace Peace: Living without conflict or hostility. It is living in harmony with one another, with peace of mind, freedom and security. Dialogue is important for peace. If people talk to each other, they have a better chance of understanding the other person's point of view, Even if they do not agree with it. Dialogue is not the same as a debate. It is not about making a case that everyone has to vote on; nobody wins in dialogue the Same way they do in debate. The important things to remember when involved in dialogue are to: Take time to listen to both sides. Ask questions. Respect those you are in dialogue with. To respect is to have regard for the feelings, rights and opinions of others. Dialogue is important for peace because: It gives an opportunity for people to feel listened to. Through dialogue, people become better informed and they no longer rely on hearsay or assumptions. • It allows questions and understanding. Inferaction If you understand someone, even if you do not share the same opinions or have the same beliefs, you are less likely to dislike them, to spread lies about them, or consider them bold. If you feel listened to, you are less likely to feel frustrated or angry. You are less likely to resort to aggression to express your feelings. Interaction further helps understanding between different groups. Interaction may happen in different ways, such as, sharing space or resources, holding events together and discussing ideas about something.
