Andrea Borg Professor Ethics 9/23/21 Conventions and ends In my opinion convention and ends are two similar things that complement each other to find the good, that’s how I see it anyway. An example that I can think of related to recent times that distinguishes a convention from an end in an impactful way is the use of masks. People around the world came together to wear masks to end COVID-19 which has worked for the greater good as it has drastically lowered the number of deaths and cases. It is important to make this distinction because they are two words that have similar meaning but complement each other well to get out the good for the people, and so people could really use these two words to better our world and make it a better place. However, not all conventions are good, one bad convention that I can think of which could cause a lot of debate is the death penalty which conflicts with end because people shouldn’t be killed no matter the circumstance and should die by natural causes in a sense. Personally, I don’t agree with it because it doesn’t bring justice to anyone taking someone’s life, instead the person should be locked up for life and be given rehab.
