This leads to people like Aylito Binayo, who spends nearly 8 hours daily acquiring water for her family in her village, Foro, in the Konso district of southwestern Ethiopia. The consequences of drinking from unclean water sources include diarrheal diseases, which are common among these communities. The scarcity extends beyond families and affects health centers as well. They lack enough water to spare for sanitation and personnel. Efforts have been made to address this issue in neighboring rural and urban areas, but most solutions have been difficult to maintain. Organizations like WaterAid have taken the initiative to help these communities through new installations, such as water pumps. WaterAid takes the initiative to involve locals in the installation and maintenance of these pumps, overcoming barriers related to communities and prices. These pumps can change the lives of locals, allowing them to focus on other chores and being with their families, rather than taking them to health centers for waterborne diseases and hauling over 40 pounds of water daily. In conclusion, the installation of technologies that facilitate water accessibility is a vital step in improving the lives of hundreds of millions of people worldwide.
