The Cause and Consequences of the French Revolution The causes of the French Revolution have consequences that are still relevant and essential to the world to this day. France was in a economic crisis. They had spent too much money of the Seven Years War. There was a raise in taxes, and the people were not happy. They rioted until moderates got into control, and nationalism took over France. France had a obvious class divide. Even though the lower class made up 96% of the population, they were still underrepresented in any form of lawmaking. The third class didn’t like this, so they turned to civil unrest. There was a period called the reign of terror, led by Maximilien Robespierre. This ended once Napolean got into power, and the Republic of France was formed. Ideas were spreading through France like wild re. The people realized that they could change the way the government was run, just as the Americans did. This is called the enlightenment. They destroyed the feudal documents, and that balanced out the structure of society. The things that caused the French Revolution, no matter how big or small, immediate or long-lasting they were, fi fl have consequences that are still re ected in present day.
