Action In Arthur C. Brooks, To Make the World Better, Think Small, one is dealt with how we truly deal with what goes on. In the current day one problem turns to a string long of millions, from our depleting planet to our president’s not so favorable executive orders. In turn this is called a cognitive phenomenon that psychologists call psychic numbing. When one is so bombarded with so many problems you can’t pick one and end up solving none. Brooks expresses how we have become physically numb to it all, we see this on the television, on the streets, but yet we do not pursue it further. He mentions Adam Smith, “…may regret the calamity in theory, but so long as he never sees the victims, he will snore with most profound security over the ruins of a hundred millions of his brethren.” Since it does not happen to us, we cannot personalize the situation, and wash it away. However this is not the end. We can fight back; we just have to think small. In all aspects, take on one problem first, and recognizing individual faces in these situations. Brook mentions how he sees his daughter whom he adopted from China. He also mentions his friend, Krishna Pujari whom was born into poverty but managed her way. He can relate to a parent wants to adopt, but unfortunately a right that perhaps will be striped for some. The next task is to finally take action, put your beliefs/opinions to play. Go ahead and take the world, with one, not all at once. Referring back to the beginning, as Brooks mention we are continuous bombarded with so many events we cannot chose which one to take on. This is a term that has been throughout time, yet many still sleep soundly every night. There is a particular solution expressed, thinking small, take on one problem compared to tackling them all at once. Personalizing the situation will make it real, and you can relate to their story. It only takes one person, and one change, why not start now?
