Sketchbook Assignments Spring Semester
Completion Checklist:
Is there detail on 90% of the spread (both pages)?
Is the content on topic/relevant?

__ # 1- Collage Work- Create a body of work comprised of collaging components from
printed materials; newspaper, magazines, handouts, etc. Finished details and
negative space can be made with standard tools
__ # 2- Emotional Chart- Complete a series of self-portraits (minimum 2) that represent
you in different emotional states. Research a list of emotions, do not just use
“happy” or “sad.”
__ # 3- Re-Dux- Look at a previous SBA from the previous semester. Select one to
recreate. Use you new skillsets to improve upon the design, and application of
the elements and principles.
__ # 5- Student Choice- Choose your own subject, and complete a drawing using skills &
techniques learned in class.
__ # 6- Free-Write- Create 2-3 paragraphs about something your passionate about in
your journal. After, create artwork in/around those paragraphs to showcase what
it means to you.
__ # 7- Lyrical Lines- Write a line from a song (school appropriate), and create a spread
showcasing the mental image that is created from those words.
__ # 8- Stencils- Use stencils to create a Pop-Art style body of work; landscape, portrait,
still life, etc.. Fill in space with texture and detail.
__ # 9- Lists- Create a list of at least 10 things: goals for the year, self-described
adjectives, favorite artists, etc. After, create a body of work that is reflective of
those items on your list.
__ # 10- Lines, Lines, Lines- Create a spread that is very dense with repetitive line work:
spirals, dashes, horizontal, vertical, diagonal, wavy, zig-zag, etc. These lines
should be very close together, but not touching. After, color in negative space. __ # 11- Album Cover- Create an album cover of your favorite artist/band. You may
reimagine an existing cover, or create a new band/artist/album entirely. Give
strong visual clues to support the title.
__ # 12- Hand Value Study- Draw your hand in several poses gripping something:
marker, pencil, ball, cup, etc. Be sure to include the necessary shading to render
the images life-like.
__ # 13- Observational Drawing- Create a body of work that represents what you see
from where you are in the classroom. This should include a wide range of items
and not be one large item that takes up the entire space.
__ # 14- Color Scheme- Create two identical images, and finish them in two different
color schemes.
__ # 15- Marker Painting- Use markers to create a dynamic image: portrait, still-life,
landscape, etc. Then outline and finish in marker. After, us a damp brush to bleed
out the marker work. Do not put marker on wet paper!
__ # 16- Depth- Create a body of work that shows your understanding of perspective.
Create images that have depth, and include the appropriate value to them.
__ # 17- Cut-Paper Cubist Creation- Create and image of somebody/thing that is
comprised entirely from cut paper. While final details may be finished with
coloring tools, >80% of the details in the work should be made with cut paper.
__ # 18- Connections- Focus on the idea of connection. Visually explore the connections
that you have made to yourself and to others. Create a body of work that
showcases the way these connections have affected you.
__ # 19- Years at a Glaze- Create a visual timeline of yourself, and the milestones in
your life. This span of time could represent a single year or multiple.
__ # 20- Changes- What is one this you would change about the world? Create a body
of work that explore that answer, and the supporting steps to make it happen.
