Keep these notes, as they will be useful when taking your midterm and final. Once completed, submit them to course commons for a grade. 1. What is another name for primary data that is mentioned in the lecture video? Another name for primary data is “raw data.” 2. Find an example of secondary (summarized data). Examples could be an interesting graph, data you have read on a sports team, etc. An example of summarized data can be stats of a soccer team of the match after it has concluded. Example: number of goals, percentage of ball possession, number of fouls, number of corners, number of passes completed. 3. In this question you will select a simple random sample. Students are given a book list at the start of the school year and must read three (see the list below). Using a random number generator, you obtain the numbers 6, 2, and 7. Which books are you assigned to read? If numbers 6, 2, and 7 are selected, The Jungle, Huckleberry Finn, and A Tale of Two Cities are assigned to be read. 4. Reflecting on question 3, students must sample without replacement. In one sentence, explain why. What happens if a book is chosen twice? When sampling without replacement, once a member is selected, it cannot be selected again. If a book is selected twice, it will not be counted because it can’t be used again. 5. Explain (in a sentence or two) the difference between cluster sampling and stratified sampling. Do not just restate the definitions. Cluster sampling involves grouping people and selecting them randomly, stratified sampling involves grouping people and selecting them at random, but it requires a separate analysis and different formula.
