Color Theory
A Color Wheel, based on red, yellow and blue, is traditional in the field of art.
Primary Colors for print: Red, yellow and blue
Primary Colors for video: Red, blue and green
Cannot be mixed or formed by any combination of other colors.
Secondary Colors: Green, orange and purple
These are the colors formed by mixing the primary colors.
Tertiary Colors: Yellow-orange, red-orange, red-purple, blue-purple, blue-green &
yellow-green
These are the colors formed by mixing a primary and a secondary color.
Color Harmony: In visual experiences, harmony is something that is pleasing to
the eye.
Analogous Colors: Any three colors which are side by side on a 12-part color
wheel
Complementary colors: Any two colors which are directly opposite each other
Warm colors are vivid and energetic, and tend to advance in space.
Cool colors give an impression of calm, and create a soothing impression.
Tint: If a color is made lighter by adding white.
Shade: If a color is made darker by adding black.
Tone: if gray is added.
