Extensive and Intensive properties. extensive properties are those Properties that depend on the Total amount of material present. Intensive properties are those Properties which are Independent of the Total amount of Material present.. Some examples ↓ of Material Extensive property Intensive property Volume Molar volume Number of moles Density Mass Refractive index Energy Surface Tension Enthalpy Molar enthalpy Entropy Pressure Temperature If x and y are arbitrary extensive variables, then (x+y) is an extensive property variable too. Cv and Cp are intensive variables. If x an arbitrary intensive variable and y is extensive variable, then Yx, Y and Dy/Dx are extensive variables, examples of intensive properties are mole fractions and Molarity. Table Next Page →
