As the Mongol armies came upon the vast plains of China, their banners waved in defiance of custom and precedent, the stage was set for a collision of civilizations, a confluence of cultures. Once the dice was thrown, the land was consumed by war's flames, obscuring millions of people's futures. In the middle of the chaos of combat, Kublai Khan prevailed, his skill in combat and strategic thinking opening the way for victory. As he crowned himself emperor of China and heralded the beginning of a new age, the trophies of victory were spread out before him, ready to be taken. The hard realities of government and administration had taken the place of the fading aspirations of imperial splendour. However, despite the approaching storm clouds, remnants of Kublai Khan's vision persisted, bearing witness to the unwavering drive for conquest and ambition that had brought him to the pinnacle of authority.
