The reasons for Europe's colonisation of Africa were complex and multidimensional. At this meeting, which had limited participation from Africa, European countries divided Africa among themselves in a unilateral manner, showing little concern for the rights and aspirations of native populations. Colonial borders were redrawn and new claims were made through a succession of legal and informal agreements, solidifying Europe's hold on Africa and setting the stage for decades of exploitation and misery. The effects of European colonisation were felt far and wide, permanently altering the sociopolitical landscape and economic course of Africa. Colonial control upended long-standing social structures and established political frameworks, planting the seeds of strife and unhappiness that would fester for many years. When European nations mercilessly exploited Africa's resources for their own profit, indigenous inhabitants were marginalised and exploited. Nevertheless, Africa's fortitude and spirit of resistance persisted in the face of colonial oppression, as people and communities banded together to rebel against foreign rule and fight for their independence and dignity. The fight for independence spread from the coasts of Algeria to the plains of Kenya, inspiring movements and leaders who would eventually overcome colonial tyranny by defying the odds.
