While they are searching for evidence, they come across an Amazon Alexa sitting in‬ P ‭the kitchen. Seeing this, they seize it and demand Amazon give them the audio recordings.‬ ‭ hould Amazon be required to hand over data collected from‬ S ‭their devices to police?‬ Yes because it is reasonable as it is a murder case. ‭ ho owns data from an Alexa? The person who bought it, or‬ W ‭Amazon? Why?‬ The data is owned is the owner of Alexa because it was bought from Amazon, handing over the custody. ‭2.‬ P ‭ olice arrest a man for robbing a bank. The man claims he was at home sitting on the couch watching TV all day. As‬ ‭the police question the man, they recognize he is wearing an Apple Watch. They take his Apple Watch and analyze the‬ ‭data, which shows him taking a lot of steps, and having an elevated heart rate at the exact time of the robbery.‬ ‭ hould Apple be required to hand over data collected from‬ S ‭Apple watches to investigators?‬ No, because the man has said he was sitting on his couch, and Apple has nothing to do with the man as it was not that the man who was ‭ oes Apple watch data that conflicts with a suspect’s story‬ D ‭provide enough evidence for a person to be suspected guilty?‬ ‭Why?‬ No because there could have been a technical error. wearing the Apple Watch robbed a bank. ‭3.‬ W ‭ hile out on a hike, a man comes across a suspicious camp, which appears to be used for making illegal alcohol. The‬ ‭man calls the local authorities and they investigate. Their investigation leads them to a female suspect from a nearby‬ ‭town. When police question the woman, she claims she has no idea about any crime they are talking about. However,‬ ‭police use GPS data and find that her cellphone has been pinged going to that exact location multiple times in the last‬ ‭month.‬ I‭s using GPS data from someone’s phone a violation of their‬ ‭right to privacy? Why or why not?‬ Yes if it is random, but no because the woman was suspected of illegal actions. ‭ oes GPS data that conflicts with a suspect’s story provide‬ D ‭enough evidence for a person to be suspected guilty? Why?‬ Yes because it shows that the woman was there. However, the woman should not be the culprit only with the GPS data evidence. ‭4.‬ A ‭ man is walking down the street and accidentally bumps into someone else. A nearby police officer sees this and‬ ‭suspects the man did it on purpose and wants to arrest him for assault. While arresting him, he recognizes the man as‬ ‭someone wanted for conspiracy to commit a crime. As the officer goes about arresting the man, he removes his‬ ‭cellphone from his pocket. After the officer asks the man for the password, the suspect refuses. The police officer‬ ‭notices the man’s phone has facial recognition. The officer holds the phone up to the suspect’s face, and unlocks the‬ ‭phone. The man is handcuffed and unable to move his face away from the phone.‬ ‭ oes your facial profile belong to you? Or is it public data‬ D ‭because it isn’t truly private? Why?‬ ‭ o you think police should be able to use facial recognition to‬ D ‭identify people in crowds who may have committed crimes?‬ ‭5.‬ F ‭ irefighters respond to a call in the middle of the night for reports of a house on fire. After extinguishing the fire, there‬ ‭is nearly nothing left in the house. Upon investigation, fire inspectors determine this to be a case of arson, after‬ ‭finding a broken bottle and some left over gasoline just outside the house. Police have no motive for the crime, but‬ ‭witnesses did report a suspicious person watching the fire as firefighters arrived. After locating the person,‬ ‭investigators believe they have enough evidence to make an arrest. While arresting this person, the officer removes‬ ‭the person’s phone from their pocket, and asks for the unlock code. The person refuses to give police the lock code.‬ ‭The police then ask Apple to unlock the phone for them so they can see what is in the person’s phone.‬ ‭ hould tech companies be required to unlock phone’s from‬ S ‭potential suspects? Why?‬ ‭6.‬ ‭ here is the line between what is yours, and what belongs to‬ W ‭the tech company?‬ I‭n the 1970s, multiple murders occur in a pattern that leaves people to believe there is a serial killer in the area. Years‬ ‭pass and no suspects emerge, but the murders also seem to stop. In 2018, police compare data from a DNA Website,‬ ‭and find someone who seems to be a relative of the DNA they extracted from the crime scenes years ago. After‬ ‭narrowing down suspects, the police capture DNA from the suspect, and match it with DNA from the crime scene.‬ ‭The suspect was caught because a relative took a DNA test to find out their family ancestry.‬ ‭ hould police be able to use relatives' DNA from a private‬ S ‭company to find guilty persons? Why?‬ ‭ hould DNA test companies be forced to give up their data to‬ S ‭police? Why?
