Effect of Migrations on the Host and Origin Countries Immigration is at the heart of today’s popular debates across the globe. Local people of the hosting countries are not happy, and they are of the opinion that immigration should be reduced, as a result, a series of changes were brought in the immigration policies of various countries. Meanwhile, the number of migrants has increased dramatically over the last decade. On one hand, various developed countries consider migration as a positive contributing factor for their countries while other nations believe it to be significantly catastrophic phenomenon. Migration has its pros and cons not only for the host countries but also for the countries that are being left by people, but the question that arises here is whether its affirmative effects outweigh the negative effects or not? The dominating positive contributing factors of migration are the manpower supply, economic benefits, and new business relations development; whereas, the insecurity, being a burden and resulting in the lack of jobs for the local residents are the negative contributing factor. Both the positive and negative factors will be further elaborated. To begin with, in many developed countries, low-wage jobs are mostly done by the immigrants when the local supply of laborers is not enthusiastic to do some particular jobs-for instance, farming and labor or blue-collar jobs. As a result, from the man-power supply, not only the economy of the host country benefits from the imports of cheap industrial goods, but also the remittances of the migrants from their low-wage and unskilled labor force of the country benefit the economy and diminish government instability of their countries of origins. Secondly, migration aids the developing countries by establishing a stable business connection with host countries. After relocation, the migrants become a primary part of the host country and different departments such as various governmental organizations contributing to upholding a good relation. For instance, if the immigrants have received a good education and knowledge in their homelands, they can contribute to the business development of the host country with their talents. Furthermore, they get the opportunities of putting their business ideas into work which seem impossible in their developing countries, resulting in the creation of new business markets, increase in taxes services, etc. In terms of benefits for the migrants’ home countries, the core positive impacts are the money and the return of immigrants with learned skills. These factors contribute to solving the unemployment problem in home countries of the immigrants. On the contrary, there are some negative impacts in the areas of economics and social life of the local inhabitants of the host countries. Firstly, the gross influx of people into the receiving countries will increase the population in the host countries which could be an economic burden on the government for a specific amount of time. As the immigrants do not have work permission in the host countries, then governments are constrained to supporting the incoming immigrants and providing them with the healthcare, education, transportation, and housing services. Another major negative effect is the migrants’ willingness to work for lower salaries, which is disadvantageous for the low-skilled jobs in the host countries for their local citizens. The consequence of it could be the unavailability of high-skilled jobs because the local citizens might not be able to have the experience from the low-skilled jobs. Moreover, when illegal immigrants do not find any low-paying jobs, they may try to rob people in street to support themselves, causing insecurity in the host countries if not stopped. Even though the migration of a family member brings further wages for the support of the family via remittance, the absence of the elder and active family member results in unsettled personal attention for the dependent family members especially the children. Also, due to the nonexistence of some family members, there is an enormous burden of responsibilities for work and household chores among family members. To conclude, migration has significant effects on the economies of both the original and host countries as it plays a fundamental role in the economic development of both countries. The benefits from migration stem from the transfer of funds, knowledge, and technology, as the labor migrants work in the key economic sectors, such as agricultural, construction services, etc., that can contribute to improving the livelihood of migrants and families left behind. Despite the negative impacts, such as the increase in crime, lack of jobs for native-borns, and burden on governments of host countries, outweighing the positive impacts, some countries are obliged to welcome new immigrants.
