Breathometer: Shark Tank - Spotlight Analysis Introduced as a “Silicon Valley Veteran, with an innovation he hopes will save lives”, Charles Michael Yim was a guest on ABC’s hit show “Shark Tank” for his innovative and creative product called “Breathometer”. Described as “!the world’s first portable breath analysis platform to help people make smarter decisions and improve their lives”, Breathometer is a device that individuals (especially college students) could use to make decisions to save lives. The Breathometer brings a combination or technology and convenience to the hands of consumers, as it is the world's first smart phone compatible breathalyzer. Before diving into the specifications of the deal itself involved with breathalyzer, i found it very interesting listening to the questions asked by the angel investors on nearly every product that I viewed before choosing to evaluate this specific product. These questions occasionally varied in order, but nearly every time started off with the one that seemed to draw Sharks in the most, which was “What are your sales?” Following this usually comes questions more product specific, such as “What do you sell them for? How much does this product cost you to make?” and finally, “What do you need my money for?” The reason i found it necessary to state this is because it truly put into perspective the most important aspects to consider when assessing a new product, whether it be your own or one you may be investing in. These simple questions assess what your product is, if its useful, if it has potential to be successful, and what your future plans are for the business. This single episode made me learn how crucially important these questions are to think about ever before creating a product or investing in a startup.
