TRADITIONAL ART Traditional art is an element of culture that has been passed down from generation to generation. Many artists have influenced the evolution of art. It has shown itself in a variety of ways. Art has traveled through the theaters from the beginning of time and has set out itself in the form of sculptures, installations, and photographs. In the Philippines, arts and crafts have been practiced for thousands of years, with jade carving being one of the earliest examples going all the way back to 200 BC. Weaving, folk architecture, marine transportation, carving, folk performing arts, folk graphic and plastic arts, ceramics, fiber art, and other creative expressions based on tradition are all examples of traditional arts in the Philippines. A famous example is a Manunggul jar. The neolithic pottery was discovered in a cave in Palawan in March 1964 by a team from the USPC. The jar is usually used differently, for example, burial, rituals, or storage of other things. In addition to this, in the 16th century, Europeans introduced the use of oil in painting. The method was used to show Catholicism in the Philippines back then. In the 19th century, other educated Filipinos introduced non-religious paintings. An example of this is the painting of Ferdinand Amorsolo, “The making of the Philippine flag” It shows three women; Dr. Jose Rizal Niece, Marcela Agoncillo, and her daughter Lorenza. On the other hand, one of the major parts of Philippine art and culture that until now has been continuously conducted is weaving. "Banig" and "Bayong" are also examples of woven traditional art. Mangyan people also have this poetry that was preserved hundred years ago. “Ambahan” is the chanted poetry of Mangyan’s tribe, this poem written in a bamboo stat. Traditional art also provides a historical connection to comprehend our predecessors' relationships and prior perspectives. They help to build the structures and foundations of our families and societies. Freedom, faith, integrity, a solid education, personal responsibility, a strong work ethic, and the concept of selflessness are all reinforced by tradition. As of now, there are seventy-three Filipinos recognized as National Artist.
