Books on how we're sheep and caring about what people thought about us First hipsters were born: Beatniks. Sputnik and the reactions: Americans panicked NDEA = National defense education Act: Foreign language programs and scientific coordinations. The New deal ish "New" Anymore The Fair deal was never enacted and Minimum wage increase. except for the Social Security, Eisenhower's Modern Republicanism wanted to reunite the nation, and encouraged private initiative. This would be known as modern republicanism Democrats controlled the house throughout the 1950's Created Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. At 11:58 we almost went into WWIII. Eisenhower's VP = Nixon vs JFK has debate televised. JFK televised his support for the Latinos and Mexicans. And it worked! Kennedy > Eisenhower. Assassinated in Dallas. "Whenever our economy is sluggish... Start a war" JFK says we're going to put a man on the moon, but because he wants to = Space Race. Robert Kennedy was Attorney General. Earl Warren was a conservative, but seems to become more liberal movement and protect the accused. Miranda rights. Accused of rape, but he said he didn't know you had the right to remain silent. LBJ was one of the best senators & presidents. was not politically correct by any means. The Great Society. Food stamps, WIC, public housing. All to help minorities. Blacks get to go to college.
