In the article “Integrating the meaning of person names into discourse context: An Event-Related Potential Study,” psychologists Lin Wang and Yufang Yang examine how lots of people understand and take the meaning of names within the conversation. The authors explain that names gain meaning through the info and like all the experiences that were associated with them, such as facts about a person or events connected to them. Using Event-related potentials (ERPs), the study found that people quickly recognize when a name doesn’t necessarily fit the context of a convo.
