Elevator Speech: Early Childhood Education Position
Hello, my name is Katie Hetzel. I currently hold an assistant teacher position in a private
early learning academy in north Georgia. I am very confident in my abilities to teach, care for,
and nurture children in my care. Before joining my current childcare facility, I gained my first
year of professional childcare experience working with disabled children in a program run by a
church in my community. In this position, I worked with mentally and physically disabled
individuals, ages one to nineteen years old.
In addition to my work experience, I have about two years of volunteer experience in the
childcare field. Starting at the age of fourteen, I volunteered in various church childcare
programs. While volunteering, I learned how to care for children ages one to three years old.
From those hands-on experiences, I learned how to develop a routine, keep children entertained,
and how to approach different children and their needs. The skills I have been learning and
refining for years have also helped me in various babysitting and nannying jobs for families in
my community.
I am also trained by the American Red Cross organization to properly administer and
handle CPR, seizures, diabetic shock, and other emergencies. I have held two CPR training
certificates since entering the childcare field. In addition to these certificates, I have completed
transportation and bus safety training courses, as well as general child health and safety courses. Before I began working with children, I was like thousands of young kids, facing lessthan-perfect living conditions and emotional situations. Why is that important? This is important
because I have been able to combine my experience working in childcare with my own
childhood struggles. I see a little bit of myself in every child with emotional issues, learning
disabilities, and shyness. My insight and empathy for all children and countless hours of
professional childcare training have motivated and prepared me for the many challenges of
working in childcare.
Since it is clear how motivated, capable, and passionate I am about working in the
childcare field, I hope you will consider me for any upcoming childcare positions. I appreciate
your time and hope you have a great day.
