“All About Eve” Analysis
In the movie, “All About Eve,” the main character would have to be Margo, despite the
fact that the movie title includes Eve’s name. Margot can be defined as the main character
because the movie is depicted through her point of view, which is what makes a main character
in a movie. Despite the fact that the story being shown displays Eve’s life and how meeting Eve
has an effect on her life, the story is still told and shown from Margot’s position. Overall, Margot
is telling a story about something that happened to her life, and Eve is the event that happened.
During the early development of Margot’s character, she can be described as more
reserved, cautious, or closed off towards her fans as for she doesn’t trust their intentions and
believes they are not true fans. Margot believes her fans are frauds and thinks that they do not
actually watch her movies and that she shouldn’t owe them any of her time. When Margot meets
Eve, it causes her to start letting down her walls to her fans which she had never done before.
Margot’s fondness of Eve grows over time as her friendship with her expands throughout the
film. This takes a turn for the worse when Margot feels betrayed by Eve’s manipulative actions;
she believes that Eve had been trying to take advantage of her and sabotage her hard work.
Margot and Eve’s characters show dynamic changes throughout the beginning, middle
and end of the film. The main character, Margot, begins as a reserved and rather standoffish
celebrity who didn’t appreciate or accept her fans or her fans’ love for her. She has noticeable
trust issues and wants to protect herself from being taken advantage of. After meeting Eve, you
can see her character change in that she lets loose a little, she opens up and lets in one of her fans by making herself vulnerable to their love and friendship. You notice her character become less
cautious and freer throughout her time being friends with Eve. After their friendship takes a turn
for the worse, you can see Margot’s character displaying feelings of betrayal and anger. A new,
malicious, and manipulative side of Eve’s character is shown which in turn, goes to prove that
Margot’s skepticism was right.
